Cillian Murphy is the talk of the town this season after his stupendous performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The Irish star who played J. Robert Oppenheimer popularly known as the father of the atomic bomb, is in the running to top all acting nominations this awards season. While Murphy has been a Nolan favorite over the years, he has also made his name as the gangster Thomas Shelby in the popular British series Peaky Blinders.
The impressive cast also had the likes of one of Hollywood’s big action stars Tom Hardy who played the leader of a Jewish gang in the series. With the possibility of a Peaky Blinders film on the horizon, Cillian Murphy dangled a carrot in front of fans when he hinted at a potential reunion of both characters.
Cillian Murphy And Tom Hardy To Reunite For Peaky Blinders Film?
Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy are two stars who have collaborated together quite a few times in the past mainly thanks to Christopher Nolan. Both actors appeared in 3 of the filmmaker’s works namely The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, and Dunkirk. The celebrities have also shared screen space in BBC’s hit gangster drama Peaky Blinders which ran for 6 successful seasons. With the rumored talk of a film in the future, Cillian Murphy spoke to GQ about the possibility of the Venom star getting on board as well.
“He’s one of the best actors in the business. And we’ve developed this great trust and shorthand and there’s a nice kind of chemistry, I think, between the two of us. I’d love to work with him again. Maybe there’ll be a Peaky Blinders film. Maybe we’ll get to do it there. I’m not sure.”
The Inception star went on to clarify that he was not aware yet of a Peaky Blinders film in the making. Tom Hardy, who has a whopping net worth of almost $60 million which includes a total payday of $44 million from the Venom franchise, is sure to add more hype to the film if and when it materializes.
Cillian Murphy Found Peaky Blinders Set Very Intense
Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy may have developed great chemistry together over the years but BBC’s gang drama Peaky Blinders proved to be a tough challenge for the Oppenheimer star despite his rapport with the cast that included Hardy. Murphy who played the dangerous criminal Thomas Shelby, impressed viewers worldwide for his performance and his interaction with the ensemble cast but revealed that the situation was not the same once the cameras were turned off. Speaking of the reasons behind not being able to hang out with his colleagues or crew members outside of the set, Murphy told Variety,
“Because it is such an intense shoot due to the nature of the material, and because we are working about 16 hours a day for about five months, we don’t tend to hang out socially when we aren’t shooting. I think that’s only because we see so much of each other when we work, but it has been a very collaborative journey and I’ve learned a huge amount.”
The Irish actor also spoke about the restrictions that the ensemble faced while shooting during lockdown with masks and other precautions which made it even more difficult to form a bond with the cast and crew on set.
