Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Graphics Modes Have Been Revealed

As we get closer and closer to the release date, excitement for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is reaching unprecedented levels. Insomniac managed to perfect the Spidey gameplay in 2018 and somehow continued to improve it in 2020 with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Things are looking quite bright so far for the sequel to the acclaimed game.

What Graphics Modes Are Available in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

According to a leak by Spanish leaker insider_wtf, the game will have two graphics modes at launch. One that favours resolution and one that favours performance. According to them, the two modes will have the following features:

Fidelity:

  • 30 Frames Per Second
  • 4K Base Resolution
  • Ray-Tracing and Additional Visual Effects

Performance:

  • 60 Frames Per Second
  • 4K Upscaled
  • No Ray-Tracing and Additional Visual Effects

It’s pretty surprising that the performance mode doesn’t opt for 1080p as many other titles have. It seems that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is trying something different when it comes to its approach to Performance Mode.

Some seem to question the decision to only have two different settings, as a previous PlayStation Exclusive, God of War: Ragnarök, had a slew of different options to choose from according to your home setup.

How Do the Graphics Options for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Compare to Other PlayStation Titles?

Spider-Man 2 Has Lesser Graphical Options Available than God of War: Ragnarök

As previously mentioned, compared to God of War: Ragnarök, the upcoming Spider-Man sequel doesn’t seem like it has too many options to customise. Some are worried, as the very first PS5 exclusive, Demon’s Souls Remake, also only had two options, and we are now in the console’s third year. Some worry that developers aren’t taking full advantage of the PS5’s power, and some feel that the games being released could easily run on previous-gen hardware.

It seems like there isn’t much innovation when it comes to this. However, 4K upscaled resolution along with 60 FPS seem like they may give this game’s Performance Mode an edge over the others’. The first game is already drop-dead gorgeous, so it seems like at least Insomniac is definitely taking advantage of the PS5’s hardware. The extra frames will probably be more worth it than Ray Tracing and other effects, as pretty as they may be. Whatever the end result is, we can rest assured that we are in for an extremely worthwhile experience.
