Who is She-Hulk?

Created by the late Stan Lee, Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk is the cousin of Bruce Banner. After facing a freak accident, Walters needed a blood transfusion to survive. While her cousin Bruce Banner stepped up for the infusion, his gamma rays irradiated blood also granted Walters the power of the Hulk, albeit a milder version.

Though Jennifer Walters can transform into She-Hulk when she gets angry, her version of the green monster is smaller in size. Additionally, she can retain most of her intelligence and speech ability in her transformed form, unlike her cousin. In later years, Walters permanently transformed into She-Hulk, retaining both superhuman strength and intelligence. Interestingly, she is also one of the few characters like Deadpool who can break the fourth wall at times.

When is She-Hulk releasing?

Prior to the trailer’s release, it was rumored that the Disney+ series will be released on August 17, 2022. Now, the trailer has confirmed that the show will indeed be released on the same date. The first trailer of She-Hulk has been described as funny and humorous with a lot of heart. Apart from being a superhero series, the trailer has also teased that the show will also explore Jennifer Walters’ dating life, as she struggles with her newfound powers and appearance.

According to director Kat Coiro, the series has a lot of heart mixed with humor and fun. However, the series is still very much connected to the larger MCU, Coiro has explained:

“I never choose a project based on genre. And I actually don’t think very much about genre, I think about character. And I think about the emotional lives of the characters and, you know, can I bring something? Can I bring a mix of humor and heart to this? Because that is what I love to watch. And it’s what I love to work with.

The cool thing about Marvel is that it is an ever-evolving universe and you have straight dramas, and you have very comedic films, and we are in that world where we’re definitely playing with a more comedic world, but it also is still part of Marvel land.”

Actor Tim Roth, who plays the role of Abomination in the series has been all praises regarding the series and star Tatiana Maslany.

“She’s amazing. It’s actually jaw-dropping. Yeah, you know what, just watching it just on a day-to-day level, and sometimes a dialogue lands, just on that level, and her ability to absorb and then perform was quite remarkable. And she’s funny. One of the signs of a good actor is their comedic touch and she has it.”

While the MCU has been rapidly exploring the multiverse and the cosmos, She-Hulk is a fresh breath of air with its grounded approach to dealing with regular life. Moreover, with a second attorney at law, fans should rejoice for some exciting cameos from the series.

She-Hulk will premiere on August 17, 2022, exclusively on Disney+.
