Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fans can collectively agree that Robert Downey Jr. was the best thing to happen to the franchise. While initially there were doubts amongst the creators about hiring him to play Iron Man, their gamble ended up working in their favor. Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man became everyone’s favorite Marvel superhero with his unapologetic personality.
Robert Downey Jr. began his MCU journey with Jon Favreau’s Iron Man (2008). The director-actor duo reunited in the sequel and then in the 2014 film, Chef. During promotions for the latter, Jon Favreau let the world know about Robert Downey Jr.’s one tiny flaw that strips away the actor’s Mr. Perfectionist title.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Tiny Flaw
Appearing for an interview with MTV, Jon Favreau opened up about what he thinks is Robert Downey Jr’s flaw. Since Chef is a film about, well, chefs, Favreau believes Downey’s inability to cook proved to be a disadvantage for the actor.
“Downey’s not a cook. He’s a singer, he’s a writer, he’s an artist, so he’s definitely a jack of all trades.”
Favreau also talked about an actor in the film who he believes did the best as a cook in the film – John Leguizamo.
“John’s worked the hardest. He staged in kitchens in New York, and I was training here. And so together, we were able to look like we could work a food truck.”
As for Favreau, who both directed and starred in the film, Chef helped him pick up cooking as a hobby and he stated that he is going to be doing more of it in real life. Chef also stars Sofia Vergara, Emjay Anthony, Scarlett Johansson, and more. The film has an 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made $46 million at the box office.
Robert Downey Jr. Wanted to be More Involved in Chef
Despite the fact that Downey only had a cameo in the film, it’s safe to say that it was a treat to watch. However, the Avengers: Infinity War actor felt that he could contribute more to the film than just his acting skills.
Thus, Downey, who is quite a creative person, took on the responsibility of creating the poster for the film. While he didn’t make the official poster for Chef, he was tasked with designing the unofficial posters which he signed as well.
In a video posted by Favreau to his YouTube channel, the two can be seen discussing the designs. The filmmaker says,
“Robert Downey Jr, you all know him as an actor, producer, writer. What you might not know is that he is a graphic artist…I said…’We want to have a special poster for the premiere. Do you have any ideas?’ It’s not the official movie poster but just something for the festival that we can give to the fans.”

As you can see, Downey created some extremely impressive, bright, yet unofficial posters for his long-time friend’s movie. This just proves Favreau’s point of calling the actor a Jack of All Trades!
