Amid the charges Jonathan Majors is facing following his arrest for allegedly assaulting a 30-year-old woman, Marvel Studios is still deliberating about the actor’s future in the MCU. The Kang the Conqueror star was arrested on March 25 for the strangulation, assault, and harassment of his girlfriend, although he and his lawyer have gone their way to prove the actor’s innocence.
The controversy has greatly affected Majors’ rising career, and this also puts his future in the MCU at stake, although the studio seems undecided at the moment.
Jonathan Majors’ MCU Career Is Still Under Hot Deliberation
Marvel Studios has been seemingly quiet about Jonathan Majors’ assault issue, and speaking on The Hot Mic podcast, Jeff Sneider revealed:
“I’ve heard that Marvel hasn’t made any decisions regarding Jonathan Majors, but they’ve met with or spoken to his agent to discuss potential options going forward.”
Majors recently starred in two major film franchises, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III, where he earned critical praise for both performances. He is also set to reprise his role as Kang’s Variant Victor Timely in Loki Season 2.
The actor has numerous projects lined up for him, with the next Avengers installment being one of the biggest films he is set to appear on. With his character attached to the title, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, this makes it more complicated for Marvel Studios to arrive at a decision.
The studio is undoubtedly held in an extremely difficult position, and they probably don’t want to make hasty resolutions. With years of building the entire Avengers saga, and the next installments revolving around Majors’ Kang, the next practical decision would be to recast Majors.
Marvel Studios’ Decision Will Change The Course Of MCU
Jonathan Majors’ camp has been consistently trying to prove the actor’s innocence despite the visible signs of assault found in the body of his girlfriend. Criminal defense lawyer Priya Chaudhry said in a statement (via The Direct):
“Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows. We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently.”
The actor’s legal team has been tirelessly gathering shreds of evidence to present before the district attorney. The proofs included:
“…video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations.”
This is not the first time Marvel Studios faced the same problem. According to Inverse, William Hurt, who played General Thunderbolt Ross, was accused of violent assault by Marlee Matlin and Donna Kaz, both women revealing their experiences in their memoirs. Josh Brolin, who played Thanos, was arrested on charges of domestic violence in 2004 by actress Diane Lane. The post also suggested that “the recency of the charges allows Marvel Studios to do the right thing and cut ties with the actor.”
At this point, time will only tell whether Marvel Studios decides to keep Jonathan Majors or replace the Kang actor.
