Marvel Star “Tried to be Mean” After Not Getting “Speaking Role” in $873 Million Zack Snyder Movie

Zack Snyder is a prominent name in the film industry due to his art of filmmaking. Having made his feature debut with 2004’s Dawn of the Dead, he continued to hone his skills by working on several projects and gave some of the unique films that cemented his legacy in the film industry.

While he is well known for his work in the DC franchise, his 2016 film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice didn’t receive much praise from the critics. Not only them but actress, Tao Okamoto also expressed her opinions on her role in the film.

Tao Okamoto rose to prominence as the love interest of Hugh Jackman’s character in the 2013 film The Wolverine. In addition to films, she is also among the leading Japanese models who have worked with big fashion brands like Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, and Dolce & Gabbana among several others.

After getting global recognition by working in the Marvel film, she entered into the DC universe by portraying the role of Mercy Graves in Zack Snyder‘s film,  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. 

After having a career boost with the Marvel film, the actress did her best to hone her acting skills along with better command of English. Having trained herself for the best, she has put everything to do her best in that film. She shared,

“It was so fascinating. I didn’t have a big speaking role. I used to act as sassy girls all the time as a model so that wasn’t so challenging to me. But I enjoyed it so much, being mean. I tried to be mean.”

Working alongside Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luthor, her role was to aid the supervillain. To nail off an intense character, she tried her best to look mean which was nothing new for her as her experience in the modeling industry paid off.

In a recent appearance on Pizza Film School, the film director shared that Warner Bros Pictures asked him to make the Man of Steel follow-up funnier.

He shared that the original script of the film was quite dark however the studio demanded to add humor.

“I’ll be honest that when the script… what happened with [Batman v Superman sequel] Justice League is we had a very… the original script was much darker and weirder”

He continued,

“And then when Batman v Superman came out and the studio was like, ‘It’s not funny enough. People want funnier movies. They want funny stuff in it,’ we did go back, and… lightened the movie, overall.”

Even after the star-studded cast, the film got negative reviews from critics due to its underperformance. However, it eventually did well at the box office by grossing $873.6 million worldwide.
