The stupefying difference in power that prevails in the dregs of Hollywood is nothing new, but it still pains to see abusers in the industry go scot-free of culpability just because their word carries weight in the business.
Needless to say, it’s seldom a fair battle between someone who wields the horsepower of fame and recognition and one who doesn’t belong in the industry, let alone possess the same faculties as their abuser. And that’s exactly what’s happening in the case of Tenoch Huerta and the woman he allegedly s*xually assaulted, María Elena Ríos.
María Elena Ríos Feels Powerless Against Tenoch Huerta’s Stardom
Mexican saxophonist and activist María Elena Ríos recently accused MCU star Tenoch Huerta of being a “violent and s*xual predator” in a tweet from her official Twitter account. Though she didn’t divulge the gory details of the apparent incident, Ríos did mention that the 42-year-old actor’s star power and fan following made it incredibly difficult for her to address her “emotional abuse.”
“It is very difficult to talk about the emotional abuse and abuse of power of a sexual predator who is loved in the world for playing a character in a movie like Tenoch Huerta.”
“Charming in appearance, the great hallmark of a narcissist + a good helping of victimization.”
Huerta rose to fame last year owing to his role in Ryan Coogler’s Academy Award-winning Black Panther sequel, wherein he starred as the primary antagonist turned anti-hero, Namor. Amassing praise from critics and audiences alike, he quickly ascended to the ranks of a fan-favorite actor.
The Mexican actor is yet to respond to any of the mentioned claims.
Marvel Fans Are Divided
It seems like fans aren’t ready to come to a consensus on this issue anytime soon. While some seem to be siding with the victim in question, others are busy chanting “innocent until proven guilty” as they rush to Huerta’s defense.
As upsetting as they might be, all the raging scandals of the film industry are just as much a part of Hollywood as its star-studded and glamorous life. And while veteran actors are no strangers to sizzling controversies that spread through media like fresh, hot locker room gossip, it’s a whole different ball game for those with newfound stardom, like Huerta, who only recently amassed international fame.
Maybe that has something to do with those who’re defending him because a controversy this big can easily obliterate his career, something that would be rather upsetting if it’s later revealed that the accusations were false. But perhaps all we can do, as of right now, is wait to hear his side of the story.
