The Marvel Cinematic Universe has given the audience some of the most enjoyable superhero movie franchises. The Ant-Man series is not any less than fun as it is embedded with comic punches and of course, unique action sequences.
The Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly starrer movie franchise was uniquely designed, transforming from the human world to that of ants and then even going quantum. Real Steel actor, Lilly recalls some of the intriguing moments from the second installment of the franchise as she talked to BBC1 being quite candid about her character.
Evangeline Lilly’s Embarrassing Moment With Paul Rudd
The MCU franchise has some pretty awesome action sequences, and of course, stunt doubles have helped the makers achieve those cinematic actions. But sometimes, the actors were right on the job as well. Recalling an action scene, Evangeline Lilly said that there was an awkward moment when Paul Rudd was in her crotch waiting for a close-up reaction shot. “I did that to a male stunt double because they don’t tend to like me to actually come at Paul with my crotch there’s something hinders in his rider;” Lilly said.
“I thought that but I did do that stunt and then I did trap Paul in my crotch for the close-up shot of his reaction to that and there was an awkward shared moment while he was waiting patiently in my crotch for our director to call action which for some reason would often take unusually long that day well maybe it was just that every second was an interminable hour when Paul’s face was in my crotch I’m not sure.”
Awkward indeed. But it appears that the director, Peyton Reed got the desired scene from Rudd’s trapped neck in Lilly’s crotch.
Evangeline Lilly Said Ant-Man Sounded ‘Ridiculous’
Lilly was familiar with some classic mainstream superheroes, but she had never heard of Ant-Man before. When her manager called her for the role, she just laughed out loud at the idea of it.
“I laughed out loud and I said have they run out of superheroes and they’re now making them up because I had never heard of Ant-Man and it sounded ridiculous.”
Also, she initially did not want to do a superhero movie, but when her manager said that Rudd was in the movie, her interest started building up.
“And I was like okay, ‘hold the phone what did you just say it’s a superhero movie, Paul Rudd is gonna be the superhero?’ ‘Yes, Paul Rudd is gonna be a superhero.’ I’m almost in.”
The actress further added,
“I took the weekend and I watched some Marvel movies which is something I’ve never done before. So, I didn’t realize that they were reinventing the superhero film trope and that they were actually doing the most amazing superhero movies I’ve ever seen. I, then was as keen as anybody would be and everybody should be to actually become an Avenger.”
But the 2012 MCU film, The Avengers inspired the actor most.
“Seeing them [the Avengers] all assembled together and knowing that if I did this then I got to do that. That was the clincher and that looked like so much fun I wanted to do that.”
Evangeline Lilly further added that she wanted to be in that gang and realized the intensity of the epic scene only after watching the movie.
