The Hulk’s son, Skaar, was introduced into the mainstream MCU for the first time through She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Although represented before on television by Benjamin Diskin, the Disney+ adaptation was the first live-action debut of the comic book character and was portrayed by Marvel newcomer, Wil Deusner.
Although the entry of an adolescent Skaar into the current timeline casts a considerable shadow of doubt over the Marvel creative team’s computing skills, the bigger problem now is the studio’s visual effects department and their recreation of Skaar flaunting the hairstyle of a background dancer from a ’70s musical.
Who is Skaar — Origin, Age, and Characteristic Features
The child of Bruce Banner (in his Hulk form) and Caiera, the comic character was one of two children born to the other-worldly couple. Caiera was introduced in the World War Hulk comic arc where she is found to be a Shadow Person on Sakaar who although an antagonist at first, later aligns herself with the Hulk aka Green King before marrying him. Imbibed with “The Old Power”, she gives birth to Skaar and Hiro-Kala posthumously through a cocoon.

The primary characteristic of the comic book character that caught the eye of the cinematic universe devotees was that the Hulk’s son who should barely have been 7 years old now looks at least 17. After the events of Age of Ultron, the Hulk moves away from Earth and crashes into Sakaar in his Quinjet where he spends the entirety of two years in the Incredible Hulk’s physical form. Banner exclusively iterates his two-year timeline to Thor when the latter reunites with him during Ragnarok.
Post-Ragnarok and the decimation of Asgard, merely a day passes before Thanos’s tyranny begins in real-time. The Blip that follows then puts another 5 years to the timeline, and assuming Skaar was not dusted away by the Snap, it still makes him 7 years old at most. However, time moves differently on different planets and perhaps that could be one of the reasons why Hulk’s 7-year-old would look like an adult.
Created by Greg Pak and John Romita Jr. and first canonically introduced in World War Hulk #5, the arc of the Hulk’s son almost takes the shape of a Greek tragedy. After his birth and rapid aging (which might be explained by the powers of his late mother), the Son of Hulk is led by one end goal — to travel to Earth and kill his father. Even though the MCU prefers to stray away from the comic narrative, Skaar in She-Hulk did not look positively friendly in the first place anyway.
Marvel’s Transforms Skaar Into a Redacted Horrific Teenager
The development of Skaar’s design was a long process, as is every CGI character under the banner of Marvel. However, it is difficult to understand how of all the time invested in the making of a potentially important character who could soon become a Marvel mainstay, the version we find in She-Hulk was the one design to get approved among the numerous and much cooler ones.
As disclosed by concept artist Constantine Sekeris, the earlier designs of Skaar that were developed for She-Hulk were simply too good to not be revealed to an appreciative audience.
“…the tone of [She-Hulk] is light and funny, so I wanted to stay in a pallette that accomodated to that and with this specific design for Skaar bringing an element of his father’s Sakaar armor design reflecting that’s he is from Sakaar… I tied his long hair back to be able to show some of the Sakaar Tattoos that he would have similar to his dad when he was a gladiator.”
If by introducing Skaar, Marvel is finally reaching for the ambitious World War Hulk arc, the CGI team needs to rapidly get back to their desks and correct the designs for the MCU Skaar before putting him on the multiversal battlefield.
