Spider-Man: No Way Home performed extremely well at the Box Office. The film featured three Spider-Men (Tom Holland, Tobie Maguire, and Andrew Garfield), and villains from almost all the previous Spider-Man movies. Many critics, along with the Russo Brothers who directed the epic Avengers: Endgame, said that NWH was pitch-perfect. One can easily forget themselves and cry or laugh along with the movie and its characters. One of the villains that could not make it to the movie though was Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Mysterio was scrapped off from Spider-Man: No Way Home
Spider-Man movies have always been Marvel’s strong suit. The character resonates with almost all age groups, and the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is more relatable than any God, or Multimillionaire. No Way Home bought all three live-action versions of Spider-Men together, and while many speculated if the movie was mere fan service, they fell in love after watching it.

The film was not just loved because of the three Spider-Men in it, it was also because of all the villains that made the adventure all the more exciting. They were equally strong and sharp, so much so that one of the villains had to be removed from the film during preproduction. In a recent Instagram post Phil Langone, one of Marvel’s artists, shared the storyboard of No Way Home where we see Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
In the video, as Langone explains in his caption, the sequence takes place next to Peter’s school. “This version happened under an elevated train next to Peter’s school. JJ Jameson is a TMZ style street reporter.” The artist explained that Mysterio killing Aunt May was crucial because here Spider-Man’s principle of no killing would come to the test. As he holds dead Aunt May in his arms, rage boiling in his blood, it could have pushed him to kill Mysterio.
“Part of the idea being explored was Spidey is one of the strongest superheroes, but he holds back because he doesn’t want to kill anyone. But what would it sort of look like if Spidey went berserker mode.”
Even though this never made it to the movie, Langone had fun with it and liked the idea a lot. He also revealed that there will be a part 2. “Kind of never finished, but was fun to play with. There’s another half to this where Spidey wails on the fishbowl”, this is what the rest of the caption read.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will feature many new characters
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a huge success, not just in terms of Box Office but the film pushed the limits of animation as well. It was praised heavily for its comic book look, color pallet, and exciting new characters. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will also feature some new characters, like Hobie Brown aka Spider-Punk, who will be voiced by Daniel Kaluuyaa, and Issa Rae as Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman. To balance things out, there are also some supervillains like Jason Schwartzman’s Jonathan Ohnn aka the Spot, who has interdimensional portals all across his body.
The trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released by Sony Pictures a month ago, where we see Miles Morales and Gwen chasing someone in their Spider-Man costume. There will also be part two of this, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, whose details like the plot and cast of this film remain unknown.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release on 2nd June 2023 in theatres. Spider-Man: No Way Home is available to stream on Netflix.
