The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for two significant crossover events in Phase 6, and it appears that the demise of one Avenger may have already been set in motion. As the original Avengers have disbanded, the Multiverse Saga is poised to introduce a new Avengers team, comprising both survivors from the Infinity Saga and fresh characters.
However, considering the colossal multiversal conflict that awaits them in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s anticipated that some team members might meet their end, akin to the fate of Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame. Could it be Doctor Strange?
Doctor Strange Could Play A Crucial Role In Defeating Kang
The MCU might have already unveiled the key to defeating Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Following the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror assumed the role of the MCU’s overarching antagonist, presenting an even greater menace to Marvel’s heroes in the Multiverse Saga.
Kang possesses the ability to erase entire realities. Phase 4 hinted at Kang’s arrival, notably with the introduction of He Who Remains, a Kang variant, in Loki. However, Phase 5 has officially introduced Kang the Conqueror in full force, as seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
But Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) could be the key to defeating Kang. It could be a remarkably similar thing done by Doctor Strange in Avengers: Infinity War, where he employs the Time Stone to peer into the future, doing so a staggering 14 million times. Much like He Who Remains, he discovers that there’s only one path to avert disaster.
Will Kang Suffer The Same Fate As Dormammu
He executed a maneuver at the conclusion of the initial Doctor Strange film, ensnaring the interdimensional being Dormammu within an endless cycle of potential outcomes until it ultimately accepted his conditions. This approach significantly diminishes Kang’s presumed invincibility, which hinges on his capacity to foresee and thwart any conceivable threat.
The Sorcerer Supreme could potentially outmaneuver Kang by predicting his strategy and employing a parallel countermove. While Strange relied on the Time Stone in Infinity War, duplicating the feat might not be a daunting task, especially considering that he successfully executed it twice within the MCU’s canon and is presumably well-versed in the requirements.
This positions him as a pivotal figure in countering Kang’s schemes and addressing whatever plans the antagonist might unveil. To put it succinctly, Doctor Strange is the sole hero within the MCU equipped with a probable strategy, giving him insights into the potential tactics Kang could employ in any confrontation.
Moreover, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the variant of Doctor Strange from the Illuminati Universe allowed other heroes to defeat him due to his descent into darkness. By the end of the film, the main version of the character retains the third eye, indicating his continued journey down a similar path. But whether he will take the same path as Iron Man and sacrifice his life for the better good remains to be seen.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available for streaming on Disney+.
