IndieWire has recently compiled a list of the top 60 animated movies of the 21st century. While a list like this may or may not resonate well with every film aficionado out there, one thing has managed to catch every Marvel fan’s attention. 2023’s most awaited animated movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, finally made its grand debut on the silver screen.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting this long-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. But even after scoring a staggering $51.75 million on its premiere, making it the third-highest opening day for an animated film in history, and $120.5 million on its opening week, the film lost to Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning movie for the top position in the list. As expected, Marvel and especially Spidey fans didn’t take this lightly as they stormed Twitter to voice their disagreement with the said list. Let’s find out more about the reactions.

One visibly stupefied fan wrote, “You ever sit and think about how easily eclipsed the other animation movies are. Spider-Verse single-handedly revolutionized the genre, and not because people aren’t capable, they just never did it“, while another fan said, “Across The Spiderverse >>>> Spirited Away #AcrossTheSpiderVerse”
Another Spidey fan added, “Wait till Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out tho”, while another fan seemingly agreed and said, “2nd? I feel like the only movie to ever top this will be BTSV”.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Broke Marvel’s 11-Movie Streak

Given the monumental conclusion, fans naturally speculated about the inclusion of a post-credits scene, following the established tradition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, to everyone’s surprise, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swayed away from this pattern and opted not to incorporate any post-credits scene. This deliberate choice signifies a departure from Marvel’s 11-movie or 3-year practice of including at least one post-credits scene in all their films since August 2020, starting with The New Mutants.
While fans may have anticipated a post-credits scene, the decision to omit one in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was a purposeful one. The film’s ending already delivers a profound impact and sets the stage for the next chapter in a captivating manner. Introducing a post-credits scene, especially one of a humorous nature, could potentially undermine the emotional resonance of the awe-inspiring conclusion.
Across The Spider-Verse is currently running in theaters.
