Pirates of the Caribbean is easily one of the biggest cinematic franchises in Hollywood. Headlined by one of the industry’s biggest superstars Johnny Depp and bankrolled by production giant Disney, the cult adventure films were big-grossers at the box office. Apart from Depp whose character Captain Jack Sparrow became a sensation with audiences, the film also starred popular celebrities Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
The first film of the franchise Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl also featured another big star Zoe Saldaña apart from Depp, Bloom, and Knightley. Saldaña who is also a popular Marvel Alum with her role as Gamora, did not become a mainstay in the franchise after the first film owing to facing an unpleasant working environment.
Will Zoe Saldana Return to Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise?
Apart from Johnny Depp and other stars who set the box office alight with their performances in Pirates of the Caribbean, the first installment also saw another popular actor Zoe Saldaña sharing screen space with the glittering cast. Saldaña played Anamaria, a pirate whose ship was stolen by Depp’s character Jack Sparrow. But the sixth film role of the Marvel star’s career did not pan out well for her. Saldaña, who found the atmosphere on set difficult to work in, confessed saying,
“It was not so good an experience because of the poor management at that time.”
After The Guardians of the Galaxy actor allegedly held Disney responsible for not creating a conducive working environment for her, Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer personally apologized to the actor which Saldaña accepted as an honorable apology. It now remains to be seen if the Avatar star’s possible presence could resurrect the franchise, especially after rumors of Johnny Depp’s involvement being uncertain.
Johnny Depp’s Future As Jack Sparrow
Hollywood actor Johnny Depp’s potential return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the sixth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean has become a major talking point. While Disney Studios’ President Sean Bailey said the actor’s comeback is noncommittal as of now, sources close to the star have stated that he is not interested to reprise his role as the iconic pirate anymore. Other alleged reasons for his refusal seem to involve the lack of support from Disney following his very high-profile divorce trial. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer though, expressed his desire to see Depp back in action on the condition that Disney was on board.
“You’d have to ask them. I can’t answer that question. I would love to have him in the movie. He’s a friend, a terrific actor, and it’s unfortunate that personal lives creep into everything we do.”
With Depp being potentially unavailable to revisit the brilliant character of Jack Sparrow, there are doubts and speculations about how the franchise and a sixth film will hold up in the absence of its main talisman.
