Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is all set today to arrive on the big screen and the world will be celebrating the most iconic fashion doll. Every little girl who is into fashion has seen many sides of Barbie. And the creators of the comedy and drama movie are bringing every element of the doll to the theatres through Margot Robbie.
The Babylon actress’s every look in the movie is no less than a Barbie dream but during an interview the actress disclosed she is not a big fan of the fashion doll.
Margot Robbie says she wasn’t allowed to touch her sister’s Barbie dolls
Margot Robbie stunned many of her fans when she admitted that she doesn’t remember ever having a Barbie doll as a child. Robbie, who plays the elegant fashion doll, stated that she did not play with Barbies, but her sister did. While talking about cousins and sisters the Babylon actress claimed they were Barbie lovers. When the interviewer asked the Australian actress if this was true or false that she wasn’t a big fan of the doll, the actress said
“ Not that I remember I have to double check that but my sister definitely did and I wasn’t allowed to touch them and my cousin you know had a box of Barbies.”
Ryan Gosling who was seated right next to Robbie asked if she was cool with her sister now and the actress said all is well between them. The Drive actor also asked if doing this movie was devised for a giant revenge the actress chuckled and said “that’s all this movie is, getting back at my sister.” Even though the 33-year-old actor isn’t a big admirer of the doll she understands how to master the character.
Greta Gerwig wanted her movie Barbie to go on a classic hero’s journey
When the Focus actress was asked what the character means to her, Robbie recalled a conversation she had with her director Greta Gerwig. While remembering what her director told her, the actress said,
“One of the first things Greta said was that she wanted Barbie to go on the classic hero’s journey, like the Buddha’s journey to enlightenment. And I was reading the Joseph Campbell book The Hero With a Thousand Faces at the time and I was like, ‘I know exactly what you mean.’ I hadn’t played a character that’s been on that classic hero’s journey before. So that was really interesting.”
