"M-She-U strikes again": Marvel Reportedly Making Sue Storm, Not Reed Richards, the Lead in Fantastic Four Amid Margot Robbie Casting Rumors

Amidst the ongoing discussions about female representation in Marvel Studios, the studio is reportedly working on its next major project centered around a female lead character. While no official confirmation has been made, credible sources suggest that Marvel is taking steps towards expanding its female protagonist lineup following the success of Captain Marvel in 2019.

The debate about Marvel Studios’ representation of female lead characters is ongoing, with some questioning if there is an over-representation. However, it appears that Marvel has already made its decision on the direction it wants to pursue in the future.

Will Marvel Make Sue Storm The New Protagonist

While the upcoming movie The Marvels featuring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani could influence decisions, current reports suggest that Fantastic Four will predominantly focus on Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, as the lead character and central figure of the team.

As per @DanielRPK on Twitter (via @F4Update), the Fantastic Four movie directed by Matt Shakman will shift the focus to Sue Storm rather than Reed Richards, who is typically depicted as the team’s leader.

Earlier reports suggest that Marvel Studios prioritized casting an actress for the role of Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four movie and planned to cast Reed Richards, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm based on that choice.

As of the present, there have been no official announcements regarding the casting of any member of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suggesting that the studio may have temporarily halted its efforts in that direction.

Who Played Sue Storm In Previous Films

Before the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Fantastic Four movie, Sue Storm was portrayed by different actresses in live-action films on three occasions. In the low-budget and relatively unknown film The Fantastic Four (1994), Rebecca Staab played the role, which is often believed to have been produced mainly to retain film rights to Marvel’s First Family.

In a later era, Jessica Alba stepped into the shoes of Sue Storm for Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). While these films were box office successes for 20th Century Fox, they received mixed reviews from critics.

Lastly, Kate Mara took on the role of the Invisible Woman in the ill-fated Fantastic Four (2015), which was widely criticized and performed poorly at the box office. After Disney acquired the rights to the characters, they have been working on a new Fantastic Four film since 2019.

Rumors circulated that Marvel was eager to cast Margot Robbie as Sue Storm, but she declined the opportunity (and with her success in Barbie, she likely has no worries). The role of the Invisible Woman is reportedly being considered by Vanessa Kirby, Jodie Comer, Mila Kunis, and Allison Williams.
