‘Listen to women…There’s this person who’s a repeat offender’: Across the Spider-Verse Star Issa Rae Blasts Hollywood for Protecting Ezra Miller

Ezra Miller’s off-screen actions have been pretty deplorable, and it’s nothing new. The 30-year-old actor, who broke into the acting industry with impressive performances in movies like Perks of Being A Wallflower and We Need To Talk About Kevin has cooked up a lot of trouble for their PR team when they’re not putting on an act.

It was a bit surprising that none of their peers called them out considering that their role as Barry Allen/ The Flash in the DCEU is a big one. You might think it’s got to be one of their DCEU co-stars or even Zack Snyder who tells them to tone it down, but they’ve gotten flak from the Marvel camp instead.

Issa Rae Calls Out Hollywood’s Silence On Ezra Miller’s  Issues

Hollywood has an underlying issue that even the biggest actors in the market seem to ignore- abusers get a free pass no matter how terrible their actions were.

This issue was put into the spotlight when Miramax co-founder Harvey Weinstein, who literally has a Wikipedia page detailing the cases of sexual abuse he’s committed, was put on trial by the acting industry after more than 80 women made allegations of sexual harassment/r*pe against the 70-year old former film producer.

The problem was that even though it was evident that Weinstein had been committing these acts since the late 70s, no one dared to bat an eye to his actions and that in turn enabled his predatory behavior.

But those years have passed, and positive changes are coming to Hollywood. Issa Rae, who will star in the role of Spider-Woman in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse movie has shown us that she’s determined to change this culture.

In a recent interview with Elle Magazine, the Insecure star calls out Hollywood for enabling Ezra Miller‘s explosive behavior-

“I’m gonna be real, the stuff that’s happening with Ezra Miller is, to me, a microcosm of Hollywood. There’s this person who’s a repeat offender, who’s been behaving atrociously, and as opposed to shutting them down and shutting the production down, there’s an effort to save the movie and them.”

“That is a clear example of the lengths that Hollywood will go to to save itself and to protect offenders. So, don’t do that, and women may be able to thrive. They won’t have to live in fear of keeping silent because it’ll ruin their careers. It’s just a constant pattern of abuse that’ll only persist if Hollywood continues to insist on being this way.”

Ezra Miller’s actions are inexcusable, and Rae is right in her words when she says that such a pattern exists where Hollywood seems to turn a blind eye to the actions of its members.

Fans Support Issa Rae’s Hollywood-Ezra Miller Critique

Ezra Miller’s problematic behavior has for too long been swept under the rug by Hollywood despite repeated offenses which have also been highly publicized.

Despite Hollywood’s continuing silence on the whole issue, the internet has been ever-ready to put the Fantastic Beasts star on trial for their actions. Issa Rae’s recent comments about the state of Hollywood and its blatant enabling of such actors as she cites Miller as an example only goes on to add fuel to the fire.

Twitter fans have been especially loud in their support for Rae and her words-

There’s layers to it-

Hollywood does have a lot of choices! –

Fair point-

No cap-

Issa Rae’s words stand true for a lot of the problems surrounding Hollywood, and it’s high time that big names in the industry use their platform to bring out positive changes just like Rae has.
