Before playing Rose DeWitt Bukater in the movie, Winslet bagged small roles in many TV shows and movies. In just a short period of time, Winslet became a worldwide sensation. However, it ruined her friendship with actress Melanie Lynskey. The two formed a close bond when they were teenagers but drifted apart when Winslet gained worldwide recognition for her work in Titanic.

On multiple occasions, Melanie Lynskey has talked about the ending of their friendship. After Titanic, Winslet managed to bag many big roles and got caught up in the lavish lifestyle. In a 2012 interview with Time, Lynskey said,

“Then around the time of Titanic her life got crazy because she became a superstar. I was staying with her right after she filmed that and then we totally lost touch at that time.”

Lynskey is well-known for her work in Two and a Half Men, The Last of Us, and Young Sheldon so it’s safe to say that she has also managed to establish herself as a successful star.

In 2009, Lynskey bagged the role of Munch in the movie Away We Go, which was directed by Winslet’s then-husband, Sam Mendes. Lynskey later talked about the reunion,

“We went through such an intense experience together [making Heavenly Creatures] and it was like we still knew each other and I would never want to forget anything that I’ve experienced.”

Melanie Lynskey’s career initially took time to gain pace, unlike Winslet’s career. When the two filmed Heavenly Creatures, Lynskey was a little insecure because Winslet was praised for her work but there was healthy competition between them. Today, both of them have achieved significant success in the industry.
