Harrison Ford is hanging up his adventurous archeologist’s hat with Dial of Destiny releasing at the end of this month. After investing more than 40 years into the franchise, Ford is finally retiring not only from Indiana Jones but Hollywood altogether.
In fact, according to Ford and Kathleen Kennedy, this will be the last time the titular character will ever make a screen appearance. Interestingly, during the filming as many are aware Harrison Ford suffered a serious injury during a stunt.
However, even after that, the dedicated actor refused any assistance as he wanted it to look like an old man performing those stunts.
Harrison Ford wanted to do his own stunts
Harrison Ford had always been a man of action ever since his Han Solo days in Star Wars. So obviously, when he created his legacy with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, he continued that policy over the last four decades.
However, one would think that at least at 80 years of age, he would try to slow down the momentum a little. Interestingly, according to Harrison Ford, he wanted none of that.
He noted in an interview with Esquire that after a specific scene, an on-set stunt team tried to help him come down off a horse and he absolutely did not appreciate that. He explained,
“I thought, ‘What the **?’ Like I was being attacked by gropers. I look down, and there’s three stunt guys there making sure I didn’t fall off the stirrup.”
Unfortunately, the Blade Runner star got even more agitated when they tried to explain that they were there to help. He added,
“They said, ‘Oh, we were just afraid because we thought, you know, and bah bah bah bah.’ And I said, ‘Leave me the ** alone…Leave me alone, I’m an old man getting off a horse, and I want it to look like that!'”
It was interesting for sure because he suffered a serious shoulder injury on the sets of Dial of Destiny, which lead to some impactful changes made to the script and storyline of the entire movie. However, even with everything, Ford is for sure happy with the way the movie has turned out.
Harrison Ford is proud of Dial of Destiny
Harrison Ford claimed in an interview that after four decades of investing his blood, sweat, and tears into the franchise, he wanted to end it, “Not with a whimper, but with a bang.” He also added,
“I had been ambitious to do this film for 10 years, and there finally came a time when we all committed to that. It was a joyous moment for me. I think it’s a rare situation that I find myself in.”
Not only that, but his overwhelming emotional response to the 5-minute-long standing ovation he received after Dial of Destiny’s screening at Cannes, has indicated his pride and joy As a result, it can be said for sure that he is satisfied with the end he had always hoped to bring to the franchise.
Especially as this will be the last time he would ever appear on the big screen again. Although there are talks of an Indiana Jones TV series being in the works, he has stated that he won’t be a part of that. It will be interesting to see who takes the helm from him if the series truly does come to pass.
