An unexpected cameo in The Batman had been of Barry Keoghan as the Joker. The actor has become a part of the superhero industry in both the DC Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His role as Druig in Eternals and Joker in The Batman has made fans question what is to come in his superhero journey.
His role in Robert Pattinson’s movie had been a minor one yet an impactful one. He was introduced as the Clown Prince back in 2022 in the mid-credit scene of the movie and the role had been so minute that it even went uncredited. However, there were some deleted scenes with his character that made the fans realize just how devious his character might be.
Barry Keoghan Is Waiting To Come Back As The Joker
Barry Keoghan recently revealed that he has already been preparing for his role as the Joker were he to ever get a call back in order to return. He even stated that he would not miss a chance to come back as the character and would jump if the opportunity presents itself. During this time of change in the DCU, one factor that is still a constant is Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s return to their established part of Gotham.
“Definitely. Definitely. Definitely, because I’ve got a few other things I’d love to bring. Actually, I have this little half-Moleskin book I’ve written a lot in already and so yeah, I want to show people what that is.”
There is no doubt that he would one day return as the character of Joker. However, the question remains of when that would happen. He has shown interest in the character multiple times and is more than willing to return. He even has a lot prepared for the fans so that he could do his best for the character and the franchise.
Barry Keoghan Has A Special Interest In The Killing Joke
It’s a miracle what impact a deleted scene can have on the audience. Keoghan’s version of the Joker was purely present to play a role in The Riddler’s arc. However, upon seeing the potential that Matt Reeves’ Joker has, fans did not waste time to bring him high up in the spot for the best versions of the character.
Barry Keoghan has even stated that he has a special liking for the one-shot comic. The Killing Joke was a peculiarly interesting story as it saw a more personal approach to the relationship between Batman and Joker. The Clown Prince of Gotham even managed to make the Caped Crusader laugh because of a joke he made. It showed the villain’s origin and how no matter how much either party wanted to stop the chase, it was too late.
The actor specifically likes this arc and wants to explore more of the dynamics that the two characters have built throughout their journey. Although there is no confirmed news as to when he would return, there is still hope to one day see Barry Keoghan as Joker again.
The Batman is now streaming on HBO Max.
