Martin Scorsese’s upcoming movie Killers of the Flower Moon will be released via Paramount Pictures on October 20. Apple Original Films recently dropped its second new trailer for this Western epic worth a cool $200 million.
Its plot is based on a series of Oklahoma murders in the Osage Nation during the 1920s, sparked by the discovery of oil on tribal land.
The movie will be a cinematic firepower as it features some of the best stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone, and is backed up by Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser in supporting roles. Looks like Killers of the Flower Moon is right on track to win an Academy Award for Best Picture.
Killers of the Flower Moon is Oppenheimer’s Biggest Competition
Martin Scorsese’s name alone is enough to say how good the movie must be. You don’t need a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score to confirm that Killers of the Flower Moon is bound to be a jaw-dropping flick — its premiere at Cannes says it all.
Killers of the Flower Moon is a top-notch, twist-filled, brutal chapter in our history. Scorsese’s mastery shines through as he skillfully weaves tension — an uneasy sense — throughout the film’s engaging runtime.
Scorsese’s unreleased movie has been making waves since its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, earning rave reviews. It’s been a strong contender in the Oscar race and consistently ranked high in various categories at Gold Derby.
They expect Killers of the Flower Moon to be nominated for Best Picture, Best Director for Scorsese, Best Adapted Screenplay for Scorsese and Eric Roth, Best Actor for DiCaprio, Best Supporting Actor for De Niro and Best Supporting Actress for Gladstone.
But Scorsese’s movie has a strong contender on the line — Oppenheimer, which is bound for multiple Oscar nominations and a likely win for Christopher Nolan in the Best Director category. So, all in all, the upcoming epic Western crime drama film is running the Best Picture race behind Oppenheimer.
Although Killers of the Flower Moon is widely considered Oppenheimer‘s biggest competition, it is predicted by GoldDerby‘s Oscar experts that Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) can overtake Leonardo DiCaprio (Killers of the Flower Moon) as the Oscars front-runner.
What Makes Killers of the Flower Moon an Oscar-Winning Movie?
Killers of the Flower Moon premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and was greeted with a 9-minute standing ovation. Besides this, the movie’s new trailer gives an even deeper and more sinister look at the plot, which is also well-received by the fans.
As we can see, the movie is making waves everywhere, but in the world of Oscars, it’s not just about making a great movie; it’s also about running a solid campaign. But Killers of the Flower Moon seems in a prime position to make a strong Oscar run.
First, with an early premiere and a public release closer to the Oscar season, the movie is positioned strategically. The second factor is — Scorsese-De Niro duo, which is no stranger to the Academy’s affection. Then comes Leonardo DiCaprio’s star power, which is enough to convince people he deserves more golden statues. Lily Gladstone is also in a prime position for the Best Actress nod.
The maker and cast are all recognizable names in the industry — undoubtedly, they possess all the good elements necessary for winning an Academy Award. Although it is a long marathon to the Oscars, Scorsese’s film is like the strongest participant.
Killers of the Flower Moon will open in theaters on 20th October before heading to AppleTV.
