It’s officially football season and even if you aren’t a huge sports fan, you have at least heard the name Kelce. Kelce follows Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce and his family through the 2022-2023 season. This was the season that culminated in the Eagles playing against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl; the added layer to that was Jason playing against his younger brother, tight end Travis Kelce.
The Plot
Kelce gives us a nice behind-the-scenes look at the life of an NFL player during a regular season, both on and off the field. We get to follow Jason, his wife Kylie, and their daughters as he plays during the past NFL season. Jason also gives us a look at other projects he worked on, such as his podcast New Heights with Travis, the Eagles Christmas album, A Philly Special Christmas, and his appearance on Saturday Night Live with Travis as the host.

The Critique
I thought this was a wonderful documentary, and I’m not just saying that as an Eagles fan. Jason is one of the best centers of all time, but he’s also a very down-to-earth person who truly embodies the city of Philadelphia. It was great seeing behind-the-scenes of some football games, though I would have liked to see more of that featured. That being said, it was even better seeing him with his family and friends. As a husband and father, seeing Jason interact with his wife and girls the way he does was a joy to see.
I think that what sold me on the film was the brother relationship between Jason and Travis. I feel like I connect with Jason a lot as an older brother with a younger brother who has looked up to you in life. It’s wonderful that Jason and Travis started their podcast New Heights together and if you haven’t checked it out, it’s a lot of fun! While it was heartbreaking to see the Eagles lose the Super Bowl (again), getting to hear Jason and Travis’ brotherly moment after the game was a big highlight.
We also can’t finish this review without mentioning its third star: Donna Kelce I can’t imagine what it was like for her to have her two sons competing against each other in the biggest football game of the year. We get to see her comfort Jason after the loss and then celebrate with Travis; that has to have been a rollercoaster of emotions. She’s such a wholesome, motherly figure; it was great to see her get some of the spotlight, if not more, than her boys.
In Conclusion
Overall, Kelce is a terrific documentary that you should watch when it arrives on Prime Video on September 12. You don’t have to be a big football fan either to get enjoyment out of it. At the heart of it, it’s about a man and his relationships with his family and friends; he just happens to be a professional football player in the NFL. I can’t wait to watch Jason play again this year, so I’ll wrap this review up in the only appropriate way: GO BIRDS!
