Keanu Reeves’ charisma is not just limited to on-screen. The actor is also known for his dedication to stunts and action sequences. Of course, the actor has the collected experience of nearly four decades in Hollywood.
Reeves can go extreme as well. There are a handful of actors in the industry that prefers performing their own stunts for their movies. Like Tom Cruise, Reeves can be counted as a daring actor taking all risks to keep the essence of the movie real.
Keanu Reeves’ Insane Stunt in The Matrix Resurrection
Keanu Reeves is nowhere near slowing down, the 58-year-old is still performing his own stunts in his action movies but some of his stunts are insanely challenging. In the sequel of his $1.79 billion The Matrix franchise, the actor has gone into maximal daring mode with horrifying stunts. Lana Wachowski’s 2021 installment of the franchise, The Matrix Resurrections reprised the action that dominated the earlier trilogy. In the fourth movie, Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, 55, jumped off a 43-story skyscraper in San Fransisco.
The actors were just wired where they were filmed mid-air hanging around 550 feet off the ground. The stunt was not easy as the jump required accuracy and planning. Reeves and Moss had intensive training for the particular scene, according to Insider. The duo planned and trained for the scene for one month to perfectly pull it off, practicing with body-descender cables as it was used during shooting.
The preparation for the scene was equally insane as it was pretty intense and a lot of risks involved in the process. A rig was set up on the roof of the skyscraper which was 550 feet tall, it was connected to an office building that was slightly lower than the main building. The actors practiced the scene between these buildings on air hanging with wires. But for perfection, it took 20 attempts to execute the scene.
Keanu Reeves on His Own Stunts
Hollywood produces a lot of action movies every year but most of them were VFX and CGI manifested. But few actors dare to jump on the scene and Reeves is one of the few. Reeves has been candid about his approach to the action scenes he performs, he enjoys doing it.
“Yeah, I try to do, Yeah, I try to do as much action as I can because I feel like. For me, it’s a very, um, uh emotional opportunity where you get to see the characters’ emotion and if you can do as much as you can, I feel like you have that connection with the audience. You know, you maintain the connection, um, and then also it’s a whole lot of fun,” Reeves said on Live Kelly and Mark.
Reeves lives the action scenes as he told Kelly, “It’s in my body, Kelly” while recalling the intense moments of his action sequences. John Wick: Chapter 3 also had a horse riding sequence for which the actor had to train for five weeks in trick riding. “John Wick, crazy, I mean chapter three I had to ride a horse and then go underneath the neck and then do what John Wick does,” the actor said of the training when asked about his most intense action sequence in the franchise.
The actor also revealed that it gets easier when all the stunt teams and crew get along and bond well during filming.
