Peacemaker, starring John Cena as the titular character, had many surprises for the fans of his portrayal from James Gunn’s first DC project – The Suicide Squad in 2021. The series introduced the audience to new elements and sub-plots in the DC universe going forward.
Besides that, actors such as Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee, from the film, reprised their roles as Emilia Harcourt and John Economos. Gunn also managed to get one powerhouse of an actor on board, who had previously worked with an elite director like James Cameron, to play the main villain.
Appearing on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum in July last year, Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) actor Robert Patrick was asked a question that most fans wouldn’t have seen coming a mile away, but Patrick had the answer right away.
Patrick, who played T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and August aka Auggie Smith in Peacemaker, did not choose his old collaborator and decided to publicly establish the fact that James Gunn was his favorite.
Peacemaker’s Robert Patrick Picks James Gunn
Playing Auggie Smith, a cruel and white supremacist father to John Cena’s Christopher Smith, Patrick was able to work with a star-studded cast that Gunn put together.
After having almost a decade-long experience at Marvel, putting together a team of misfits, Gunn’s endeavor with Peacemaker paid off, and Robert Patrick agreed.
“Between working with James Cameron and James Gunn, which one did you have more fun working with?” – asked Rosenbaum. “James Gunn,” replied Patrick in an instant.
The fact that Patrick didn’t even take a couple of seconds to think about the answer, given his prior collaboration with Cameron, pushed Michael Rosenbaum to say, “Just like that.”
James Cameron And James Gunn’s Style Of Work
Screenrant put together a few points that revealed what it’s like to work with a highly decorated director like James Cameron. Actors like Sam Worthington from Avatar and, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet from Titanic revealed that he had a relentless way of working.
James Gunn, on the other hand, is known for incorporating a fun atmosphere while he works on a project.
Elaborating on a scene from Peacemaker, Patrick said to Rosenbaum –
“Let me tell you something about James Gunn, if I may. Cause I love the guy. The first day I worked with him, it was me and John, we got two scenes in the kitchen; big scenes. I’m prepared, John’s prepared. There is no question, it’s just this, ‘Alright, let’s shoot the rehearsal.’ We shot the rehearsal. Now that’s the f-cking kind of director I like.”
Patrick’s arc as Auggie Smith ended with episode 7 of the series, but fans hope to see him collaborate with Gunn in upcoming DC projects.
Peacemaker is streaming on HBO’s Max.
