Sitting for an interview with Howard Stern in 2015, Jada Smith revealed having a relationship devoid of chemistry, with the renowned rapper Tupac Shakur, before his unfortunate murder in 1996. Mentioning how she recalls Shakur every day, Smith pondered her relationship with the late rapper.

Jada Smith Recalls Her Relationship With Tupac Shakur
The Gotham actress Jada Smith is best known for her acting career, marriage with Will Smith, and her Red Table Talk podcast. But what’s lesser known is her relationship with the late rapper Tupac Shakur. Becoming friends as high school students in Baltimore, Jada Smith and the late rapper Tupac Shakur were close throughout their teenage years. The two, later on, shared a relationship and the experience of caring for each other until Shakur’s untimely death in 1996.
“It was the first day and he came over to me and introduced himself” Jada Smith shared with People. Recalling her first days with Shakur, Smith mentioned, “And in high school, Pac was a little funny looking…But as soon as he approached me, he was like a magnet.” Thus, it didn’t take much time for the duo to get close with each other, and share a bond more than friendship. However, throughout the interview, Smith constantly tried to hide her relationship.
Jada Smith often mentioned, “[Shakur] was one of my best friends, he was like a brother”. But fans had always suspected her of having a romantic affair with Tupac Shakur during her prime. Thus, recalling her lost relationship with the Dear Mama rapper, the actress finally expressed her passion stating, “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about Pac”. Despite being more than two decades since Shakur’s death, Smith mentioned recalling Shakur every day.
Jada Smith’s Disgusting Kiss With Tupac Shakur
Subtly opening up about her secret relationship with Tupac Shakur, Jada Smith mentioned how they had enormous affection for each other despite lacking physical attraction. Sitting for an interview with Howard Stern, Smith mentioned how she and Shakur once put themselves to the test with an actual kiss. However, she later mentioned how the kiss turned out to be “disgusting” for them.
“You know, it’s so funny because now being older, I have more of an understanding of what that was between us,” Smith pondered about her relationship. She stated how the two of them were young and had strong feelings for each other, “but there was no physical chemistry”. Quickly defending how the lack of attraction was mutual, Jada Smith confessed, “It wasn’t even just for me – it was him too.”
“There was a time when I was like, ‘Just kiss me! Let’s just see how this goes,’. And when I tell you it had to be the most disgusting kiss for us both.” Jada Smith stated.
Although the internet has numerous snapshots of the two young artists embracing and smiling with affection, Smith constantly denied any sort of romantic affair. Naming her relationship with Tupac Shakur completely platonic, Jada Smith stated, “The higher power just did not want that”. However, the actress famously raised eyebrows when she shared one of Shakur’s posthumous poems that were written for her, via Instagram in 2021.
