The Reason Winona Ryder Lost out the Role of Mary Corleone in the Movie
According to reports, Hollywood actress Winona Ryder nearly starred in Al Pacino-led 1990 epic crime film The Godfather Part III. The actress got the chance to play the character of Mary Corleone, later played by Oscar-winning actress Sofia Coppola. Ryder lost out on this significant role because of the phone call her then-boyfriend Johnny Depp made to the studio, after which the production of this movie was thrown into the tailspin since she was supposed to start shooting the flick, but she couldn’t make it to the set.
According to the Vanity Fair feature, the actress arrived on the movie set the day before Depp made the call and appeared tired to the crew members, and the next day she never showed up. Her former boyfriend told the studio that Ryder would not be coming to work that day, claiming she was unwell. The film director then sent doctors to examine the actress, who informed him that she was suffering from nervous collapse and won’t be able to continue working at that time, after which Ford Coppola cast his daughter Sofia Coppola in that role.
