Throughout his Hollywood career, Johnny Depp has lost and gained several roles. The actor had also been rejected for a role in one of Quentin Tarantino’s iconic movies of the 90s. The role was eventually given to Tim Roth, making his and Tarantino’s bond impeccable.
The role of Pumpkin in the 1994 Tarantino movie Pulp Fiction was given to Tim Roth after Johnny Depp was rejected. Although Roth was praised for his performance, it would have been interesting to see Depp playing the role of a crazy robber robbing a restaurant.
When Johnny Depp Lost A Tarantino Role to Tim Roth
During the high time of 1994, Quentin Tarantino shocked the world with the release of one of the most influential movies of all time, Pulp Fiction. With a star-studded cast of Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, and many more, several stars found their breakthrough and a long-lasting friendship with the veteran director.
According to reports, Johnny Depp was also interested in portraying the role of Pumpkin in the movie. He was, however, rejected and Tim Roth was picked to portray the restaurant-robbing crazy. It would have been interesting to witness Johnny Depp in the type of role that he can portray very well. The actor, however, found fame in the later years with the release of The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and Edward Scissorhands.
Johnny Depp however, was not the only actor to get rejected for a Tarantino role. According to documents leaked online, the original cast included some pretty heavy names such as Gary Oldman, Alec Baldwin, Michael Keaton, and Denzel Washington.
Johnny Depp Rejected The Role of Neo For The Matrix
It is hard to imagine a world where Keanu Reeves wouldn’t have portrayed the iconic character of Neo in The Matrix franchise. During the casting of the movie, Johnny Depp was the original choice for the movie but he rejected the deal.
According to reports, there were also several other actors attached to the role which included Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer, and Will Smith. The role, as fate would have it, went on to Keanu Reeves as the actor found himself surrounded by fame and wealth in the blink of an eye.
With the recent courtroom drama with Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, both the actor’s careers took a major setback. After the whole ordeal was over, it was reported that Depp will be making a comeback onto the big screens by portraying the role of King Louis XV in an upcoming French movie titled La Favorite.
The movie is backed by Netflix and will release theatrically in the region of France and will be picked up by Netflix later on for streaming. The movie is not yet set for a confirmed release date but is expected to release sometime in 2023.
