Keanu Reeves maintains a healthy lifestyle and sunny disposition in life that people used to say he is immortal a few years back. Ageing well is not a one-day process but a consistent habit that should be practiced regularly. The secret lies primarily in what we consume.
The Canadian actor is known for his roles in The Matrix, Point Break, and John Wick, all of which required him to build core strength and stamina. The actor credits his films for making him realize the importance of exercise and a healthy diet.
Keanu Reeves Shares Pre-Fight Diet Meal For The Matrix
Fans have seen Keanu Reeves perform death-defying stunts, rigorous fight scenes, and even dangerous car chases. Out of all his movies, John Wick was the most demanding film, according to his trainer Patrick Murphy (via Esquire):
“John Wick is one of the most physical roles in cinema history. The choreography, along with the multiple fight disciplines, tumbling, stunts, horseback riding, stunt car driving, gun training, and other various weapons training means Keanu’s body had been through hell and back. It’s about being able to maintain a positive rhythm with his joints, and to reduce any pain as much as possible.”
When Reeves starred in The Matrix in 1999, he had a strict diet to maintain his weight. He also revealed what he eats before engaging in huge fight scenes (via Men’s Journal):
“Low sodium, low fat, and the night before a big fight sequence, I still eat a steak. It started on The Matrix. I was like, ‘Gotta go eat a steak, Carrie-Anne [Moss, his co-star].’ It’s totally psychological.”
For his John Wick role, Reeves had a different diet regimen suitable for a professional hitman. He mostly consumes whole food and supplements such as bio-curcumin turmeric extract, NAD+ cell regenerator, and omega-3. On the other hand, he avoids baked goods, fried foods, pasta, fruit juices, vegetable oils, and alcohol.
Although fans have seen the actor beat the hell out of the bad guys, Reeves admits he has felt the wear and tear of the body as compared to his 25-year-old self. “I can’t do stairs as fast, but if you say ‘action,’ I’ll go,” he added.
When he’s not filming for movies, Reeves maintain a simple, civilian life where he takes everything easy. Even when at home, it seems he still loves his pre-fight meal. “Steak. Red wine. A nice single malt with a big ice cube. Ride a motorcycle,” he enumerated.

Trainer Praises Keanu Reeves’ Focus And Grit
Keanu Reeves is one of the most dedicated action stars of all time, and his determination to constantly perform at his best is evident in his works. Murphy even compares the actor to his John Wick character (via Men’s Journal):
“I’ve never trained with anyone more hard-working than Keanu. No matter how he feels or what he’s dealing with, Keanu has incredible grit. He brings an intense focus into every element of his training, whether he’s in the gym with me or on the gun range. The focus we all see in the John Wick character, I see in Keanu.”
Indeed, there is no one like Keanu Reeves! His self-discipline in showing up at training to following a strict dietary plan is unparalleled. Hopefully, we see more of him in the upcoming projects.
The Matrix is available on Peacock TV. John Wick can be streamed via Netflix.
