Ana de Armas reportedly included in El Muerto

It isn’t the only time that Ana de Armas has been rumored to star in a Superhero movie. The actress was initially considered for the role of Catwoman in The Batman but eventually lost it to Zoe Kravitz. But it seems that the actress is finally set to step her footing in this genre, as according to reports, the Blade Runner 2049 actress is being eyed for Sony’s upcoming movie, El Muerto.

Although there were many rumors surrounding the actress’ inclusion in Sony’s Madame Web alongside Sydney Sweeney, who is allegedly playing the role of Spider-Woman. It appears that the actress will be appearing in El Muerto instead. Even though the role that she has been reportedly assigned is still under wraps, sources claim that the Knives Out actress will be starring as the female lead in the movie.

El Muerto can perfectly fit into Sony’s Cinematic Universe

Among all the iconic Spider-Man foes, El Muerto is one of the more obscure ones on the list. But considering Sony’s bold decisions regarding their cinematic universe, a movie revolving around the character doesn’t come out as off-putting. Considering that this character has one of the more complicated backstories among other villains in the web-slinger’s rogues’ gallery and a movie around him could work well without the presence of Peter Parker.

The comic-book character comprises a Mexican Wrestler, Juan-Carlos Sánchez, who is empowered by a mystical mask that is passed down from generation to generation in his family. Even though the character is generally presented as a villain for the webhead. Sanchez has showcased characteristics, which present him as more of an anti-hero and it can easily fit in Sony’s growing universe surrounding Spider-Man villains.

But it will be interesting to see how this movie connects with the rest of the projects in Sony’s universe.

El Muerto is set to release on 12 January 2024.
