The Marvel Cinematic Universe has propelled the Marvel world to a new height altogether. Starting with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, the franchise has not looked back. It has gone from strength to strength, culminating in the Infinity saga, and starting an altogether new phase since then. Over the course of MCU, new characters have come into the limelight. But some characters have seen their stocks tumble as well.
Marvel Comic Characters that would be disappointed with their MCU representation
A host of characters were nothing more than a sorry image of their comic book representation. Some had been inexplicably toned down, while others were given a different role altogether. Here’s a list of 8 actors whose Marvel Comic counterparts couldn’t bear seeing their live-action versions.
Mr. Fantastic
Reed Richards might be one of the sharpest minds in Marvel Comics and the leader of the Fantastic Four, but his live-action representation did not do justice to him. John Krasinski’s Reed Richards debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was far from general anticipations. Dying within 5 minutes of his appearance is more than what his fans would have expected.
Hank Pym
Hank Pym was no different from Reed Richards, being one of the brightest minds in the Comics. Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym is no different, still the man behind the Pym Particles. But he has been stripped of most of his comic-book achievements, like creating Ultron or being awarded the title of Earth’s Scientist Supreme for breaching Overspace. The OG Ant-Man would definitely lose it after seeing his live-action version being robbed as well.
Quicksilver
Quicksilver was really fast. He came, he saw, and he left (quite literally). Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver was introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron. A lot was expected from him and his sister. But much to the comic book faithful’s dismay, he died in the same movie. To add salt to his wounds, he died protecting Hawkeye, a character with whom he has been at odds ever since they started working together in Avengers #16 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The speedster must be lamenting cutting his MCU stint short for him.
Adam Warlock
Adam Warlock was a character possessing incomparable power and a commitment to save the universe from whatever problem came its way. From being the only entity who could be trusted with the infinity gauntlet in the comics, to being a teen who had a lot of issues is not a journey anyone would be satisfied with.
Drax the Destroyer
Marvel Comics’ Drax the Destroyer must really hope that his live-action version could not be seen by anyone. MCU’s Drax was a far cry from his Comic version. In the comics, he is far from just a character that provides comic relief. He is an entity that has immeasurable power and someone to be reckoned with. Dave Bautista’s Drax might have a tragic past, but he doesn’t have a scary aura.
Red Guardian
Black Widow introduced a lot of characters into the MCU. One such character was Red Guardian. The character, portrayed by David Harbour, plays the loving, yet goofy, father to Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. But in the comics, he is actually Black Widow’s ex-husband. Seeing the change in dynamics must have hurt him.
US Agent
US Agent was touted as a replacement for Captain America in MCU’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier but fell well short of expectations. His role in the comics is not very different. But he is a character to be reckoned with. The touted future leader of the Avengers would be disappointed to see himself lose control in a battle and be subsequently disgraced.
Leap-Frog
The name Leap-Frog might deceive any person. But in the comics, he was ready to put himself in harm’s way, ready to launch himself into space and go face-to-face with the Power Cosmic. His MCU avatar is a far cry, being a spoiled brat with a hero complex. His attitude came in the way of him achieving greatness and made him a liability for the team.
