There was a time when people wanted to jump into the dystopian world of The Hunger Games book and revolt against the horrible practices of President Snow. After all, who wouldn’t want to be friends with Katniss Everdeen? Fans of the book series eventually got to see Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth bring the pages to life with the 2012 film of the same name.
While the story of the fictional world of Panem was one full of intense storylines, there’s no way the actors wouldn’t have had fun filming it! However, where there were ups, there were downs, too. Jennifer Lawrence once let the world in on a little secret when she stated she gave one of her co-stars a concussion during the shoot.
Jennifer Lawrence Gave Josh Hutcherson a Concussion
The Hunger Games is synonymous with action. Whether it was archery or combat, the actors had to go through intense training sessions to do justice to Suzanne Collins’ characters. Even though the arena was full of competitive tributes from each of the twelve districts, there wasn’t any competition between the actors in real life.
In an interview with Den of Geek back in 2012, Jennifer Lawrence was asked whether there was any competition between her, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth. Lawrence replied stating, that while there wasn’t, she was able to give Hutcherson a concussion at one point.
“There’s no competition. I can shoot a bow and arrow. Josh is faster than me, but I can hit a bullseye with a bow and arrow, so there’s no competition. Plus, I kicked him in the temple one time and gave him a concussion. By accident, but it’s still like, yeah, I did that. I can do that.”
Well, that has got to hurt! Not only did the Passengers actress give Hutcherson a mild concussion, but she also knocked him out. However, there are no hard feelings between them as the actor himself recalls the incident with humor.
Josh Hutcherson Talks about the Concussion
Speaking to Yahoo!, Hutcherson recalled the incident stating that perhaps Lawrence was trying to be Jackie Chan. He added that the actress was so sure she could kick over his head, but of course, she ended up coming in contact with Hutcherson’s head and knocked him out.
“She was being a real show-off, thinking that she was Jackie Chan or something. [She was] throwing these air kicks and was like, ‘Josh, I can kick over your head!’ And then crack! She clipped me in the temple…I don’t really remember because I got knocked out.”
Needless to say, Lawrence felt absolutely terrible about the deed as Hutcherson recalled waking up to her crying.
“She was crying. She felt terrible. I woke up with her [crying], laying over me.”
Despite getting knocked out, Hutcherson truly enjoyed working with Lawrence and the rest of the cast members. It sure seems like they had a blast working on the four films!
The Hunger Games is available to stream on Peacock Premium.
