Arnold Schwarzenegger blamed Jason Reitman for killing the Twins sequel

Arnold Schwarzenegger is many things, a bodybuilder, a megastar, a former governor, and has lived quite a life. He has worked his way into cementing his name in the industry, all by himself. The journey from nothing to something has been a wild ride but that does not mean, it was smooth sailing and a path without regrets. He has had quite a lot of those, which he still laments to this day. One such was the sequel to the movie Twins, Triplets.

In a Hollywood Reporter interview, the actor expressed his grief and solely put the blame on the renowned filmmaker Ivan Reitman‘s son Jason Reitman. He said,

“Jason Reitman f–ked it up! Jason Reitman literally stopped the project when his father died,”

The 1988 film, featuring Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as long-lost twins, was the work of Ivan Reitman. After years of talk, the plans for Triplets started to materialize in 2012 when Universal Pictures declared that a sequel was in the works and Eddie Murphy was chosen to play the starring role of the triplet. With time, Jason Reitman, the director of Up in the Air and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, who started as a producer in the project ended up being the director. However, the much-anticipated project got slashed by him, after the death of his father Ivan Reitman in 2021. Schwarzenegger explained,

“I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason says, ‘I never liked the idea’ and put a hold on it,”

Turns out that although the trio- Schwarzenegger, DeVito, and Reitman believed in the project, the junior Reitman failed to understand the vision. He did what seemed to be the best according to his knowledge, which most certainly did not impress Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Arnold Schwarzenegger on his future projects

Although Triplets did not see the light of day, Arnold Schwarzenegger is now working on several other things that excite the fans and one of which is with his old partner, Danny DeVito.

“I’m developing another movie with Danny; he’s so much fun to work with and so talented,”

Besides that, the trio also came together after Twins, not for Triplets but for a rather disappointing project called Junior, which only a few of the superfans will remember.
