As the self-proclaimed celebrity godmother of Jake Gyllenhaal, Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis actively avoids collaborating with the actor for one specific reason. The same intention applies to her former True Lies co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Whether this is personal or purely work-related, the Oscar winner gets candid about it.
Curtis’ project, Letters from Camp, is a children’s audiobook series that features the voices of different celebrities. She was initially hesitant to invite Gyllenhaal to lend his talent, but the pandemic had a different plan for both of them.
Why Jamie Lee Curtis Won’t Work With Jake Gyllenhaal Anymore
Jamie Lee Curtis shared how she became Jake Gyllenhaal’s godmother and why she would never want to work with him or any of her godchildren via Newsweek:
“Jake and I have known each other a long time, and when Jake became an actor, I said to him one day, ‘I’m your celebrity godmother. I will be here for you in any way I can to help you navigate all of this. Because I don’t want anything from you.’ I have made it very clear that I don’t ask anything of my godchildren.”
During the onset of the pandemic, Gyllenhaal arrived in Los Angeles and stayed in a house next to Curtis. He remained there for about four to five months. One day, he came over to the actress’ abode, and that’s when she asked if he would like to join her project. Gyllenhaal was extremely ecstatic to help.
Curtis revealed that she was initially nervous and hesitant to ask her godson because she did not want their relationship to be “transactional.” She admitted never asking him to come to movie premieres or call on him about anything.
Additionally, the Everything Everywhere All At Once star said she tries not to press her godchildren to work, and this is the first and last time she would ask Gyllenhaal to collaborate with her for a creative project.
Interestingly, Gyllenhaal had a part in convincing Curtis to star in the 2018 Halloween reboot. The horror film played an integral part in the actress’ career. She was an unknown figure back when she first starred in the 1978 version. Curtis decided to reprise her role because she was not satisfied with her character’s original ending.
Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals Why Arnold Schwarzenegger Didn’t Like Her In True Lies
Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Curtis has become wary of working with Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger after they collaborated in 1994’s True Lies. There had been speculations on why they did not exactly get along before the project, though they remained civil toward each other. In her interview with Vulture, the actress shared her sentiments on why the former bodybuilder did not want to co-star with her:
“[Arnold] only knew me as Tony Curtis’s daughter… If you remember, Arnold Schwarzenegger directed a movie called Christmas in Connecticut, and who did it star? Tony F—king Curtis. And I’m not a traditional beauty. I’m not a traditional leading woman.”
After she got the role of Helen Tasker, she showed Schwarzenegger and the viewers that she was more than just the daughter of a Hollywood actor. After the project, they eventually became friends. Although Curtis and Schwarzenegger don’t hang out often, they show great respect to one another.
