Leave it to James Gunn to bring an unconventional twist to everything, even his bachelor party. Who else would have his friends shedding tears at such an event instead of getting hammered at strip clubs? But as it turns out, the DCU chief had a rather honorable reason for skipping the same old routine of bar crawls and lap dances during his bachelor party – his wife, Jennifer Holland.
Love Does Change You After All
Or at least it changed James Gunn for the better.
During his recent appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, the host and Gunn recalled the latter’s stag night and how it was anything but “a typical Hollywood bachelor party”; instead of “strip bars and girls,” this lot decided to have a warm get-together which soon segued into an emotional boys night with good food and a trip down memory lane. “That’s what I wanted,” Gunn affirmed.
Since the Guardians of the Galaxy director is in a happy marriage with his beau, Jennifer Holland, strip clubs aren’t exactly on his radar anymore.
“The last time I went to one…I won’t say who the person is – I went to one in Vegas, and then a lot of the guys went to a strip club, but I didn’t go to the strip club. Because I’m in a relationship now […] I just don’t have the desire to go.”
There’s also the obvious downside of being recognized in such places. Running perhaps one of the world’s largest superhero franchises and attending a strip bar would certainly make up for juicy headlines, and Gunn would rather not have his reputation tarnished owing to twisted tabloid stories.
“But it’s like I still wouldn’t get a lap dance,” he added. “I mean for me, in my relationship, I would consider lap dances, probably not Kosher within my relationship.” As the writer/director himself remarked, to each their own.
James Gunn & Jennifer Holland – Cupid’s Match
Before their Colorado nuptials, Gunn, 56, and Holland, 35, had been together for seven long years. Incidentally enough, it was Rosenbaum himself who introduced the GoTG Vol. 3 actress to her now-husband back in 2015. After nearly a decade of courtship, the couple got engaged just last year in February 2022 before finally tying the knot later that year in September.
“After over 7 years together, I finally married the love of my life,” the Peacemaker director gushed about his sweetheart on Instagram after the wedding ceremony. “Thank you for choosing me, for elevating me, and for always making me belly laugh,” Holland added on her social media account. “Here’s to many more years to follow the first extraordinary 7.”
Holland has appeared in a number of projects helmed by her husband, including the John Cena-led DC show, Peacemaker and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Her most recent features include cameos in Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
