Filmmaker James Gunn announced his plan for the new DCU earlier this year and has started working on the first DC Studios movie, Superman: Legacy. Followed by huge anticipation, the director finally announced the new face of the Kryptonian superhero, which will be portrayed by David Corenswet in the upcoming movie. While fans have been amazed by the similarities between him and the former Superman actor, there are also discussions about the antagonist of James Gunn’s upcoming movie.
And one of the many names in line to portray the villain, Lex Luthor, in the movie is the James Bond actor Daniel Craig. However, the co-CEO has recently debunked the rumor, as he straight of denied the claim.
James Gunn Debunks Superman: Legacy Rumor
David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have officially joined the cast of James Gunn’s first DC project as the studio’s co-CEO, Superman: Legacy. And with the lead casting done, fans are now looking forward to getting to know the rest of the characters and cast, who will join the two actors in the upcoming movie.
Daniel Craig recently joined the discussions surrounding the supporting characters of the movie, as fans expect him to portray the DC villain Lex Luthor in the movie. However, the film’s director has debunked these rumors on Threads as he replied to a fan’s quarry.
Gunn took to Threads to answer a fan who asked if Craig would play Lex Luthor in the upcoming movie. “This is not true,” Gunn denied the claims of the Glass Onion star joining the DCU. He did not name any other actors who could portray the DC villain in the future.
Some of the actors who are shortlisted for the part reportedly include Bill Skarsgard, Alexander Skarsgard, and Nicholas Hoult. Gunn has also said that auditions for the movie are almost done and narrowing down the potential actors, but they’re not done yet.
Daniel Craig Almost Joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Hollywood actor Daniel Craig is popularly known for starring as 007 in the James Bond franchise. And he almost joined another popular franchise with the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Prior to John Krasinski joining the Doctor Strange sequel as Mr. Fantastic, Craig was scheduled to star as one of The Illuminati members, Balder the Brave.
He was reportedly set to star in the movie but exited the film due to the pandemic at the time. After he allegedly backed out from the project, Krasinski was cast as a new Illuminati member, Mr. Fantastic. However, according to the Skyfall star, all this is just a rumor, and called such rumors “a lot of lockdown craziness.” And like MCU, rumors surrounding his casting in DCU have also been debunked as well.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to release on 11 July 2025.
