So it looks like we have our actors for the live action Jak and Daxter movie. If rumours are to be believed that is. And who could have foreseen it, Chris Pratt cast as Daxter. Are there no other actors in Hollywood right now? I know the strikes are still ongoing but surely somebody other than Chris Pratt could have been cast?
And given Pratt’s recent performance as Mario in the Super Mario Bros. movie you can imagine that gaming fans worldwide let out a collective sigh when hearing this.
What do we know about the Jak and Daxter movie?
As we said earlier, Chris Pratt is allegedly being cast as Daxter in the upcoming live action movie and he is said to be accompanied by Tom Holland as Jak. Holland who you may remember played Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, another Naughty Dog title adapted for the big screen.
And it’s not the first time that Tom Holland has expressed interest in Jak and Daxter movie, when he interviewed with Gamespot in 2022 he made a pitch for his own take on a live action movie;
“I would like to make a Jak and Daxter movie, and I would play Jak, but I would make it at A24 so that it’s really weird and dark, I would do a really weird live-action version of Jak and Daxter.”
So maybe it’s no surprise that we see his name rumoured to be linked with this movie.
It is also alleged that the Jak and Daxter movie will be directed by Ruben Fleischer, who surprise surprise, directed Holland in Uncharted. He also directed Venom but let’s not open that can of worms.
And it seems that fans are less than enthused by the news, with many of them asking for a new game rather than a movie;
“Can we get a game first”
“After listening to Chris Pratt as Mario in the #SuperMarioBrosMovie, no thank you. I have this bad feeling that we are potentially going to get more crappy video game movies in the future, but we shall see.”
“We don’t want a Jak and Daxter movie, we want a new mf game.”
But it seems that not all of fans were so quick to dismiss the casting for the Jak and Daxter movie;
“Curious to see how this turns out. Casting seems okay, but expecting a big CGI production like the Mario Bros Movie.”
“If this makes a new game come to fruition, I will be happy.”
Now if you remember back, this isn’t the first time these two have worked together. They were previously paired together in Onward which was released in 2020. And let’s face it, the film sucked. It really did. So are studios just thinking, you know what second time lucky with this pairing. Who knows, it’s still early days.
