There are a number of reasons why actors want to be in popular superhero franchises like Marvel and DC. For some, it is about the paycheck, some work for the career boost, and some do it for gaining fans, but for Mayim Bialik, it was her love for superheroes that made her appear for an audition for a role in a Spider-Man movie.
Mayim Bialik played the role of Amy Farrah Fowler in the sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Bialik’s character was not a comic book fan, but unlike her character, the actress is a huge fan of comic books and superheroes. During an interview, she stated that she was turned down for an important role in Marvel.
Mayim Bialik’s Marvel Audition Didn’t Pan Out
During an interview, Mayim Bialik discussed how she would love to be a part of a superhero film or TV Series. The Blossom actress stated that she auditioned for a role in Marvel but she could not secure it, however, she was quite optimistic and believed that one day she will be part of a superhero project.
“I’ve tried very hard and I’d like to believe that one day it might happen. I did audition to play the teacher in one of the ‘Spider-Man’ [movies], but I didn’t get it.”
Even though the actress did not reveal which Spider-Man movie she auditioned for, she believes that there’s a role for her in one of the superhero movies, and one day she would appear in one.
“I’m past the young ingenue character, but I still think there might be a place for me. I happen to be very athletic, and many people have said there’s a superhero in you, even if it’s like a comedy superhero.” Saying it could happen one day, “So, you never know.”
The actress is sure that one day either Marvel or DC would call her for the ‘perfect’ role, but until that time she would prefer to be a superhero in front of her children.
“I think I’m my own kind of superhero except the kind that wears pajamas around the house and cleans the toilet,” Bialik joked. “So as long as my kids still think I’m a superhero for making dinner and doing that, I think I’m pretty good.”
Mayim Bialik signed a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. TV Production Group for her company, Sad Clown Productions in 2019. Moreover, the actress is quite busy at the moment being a part of Call Me Kat and a guest host for Jeopardy! for 10 episodes that will air at the end of May.
Mayim Bialik Voiced a Marvel Superhero
Even though Mayim Bialik has not played a superhero in a live-action film, she did give her voice to the 2014 animated Marvel movie by Stan Lee called Mighty 7. The actress voiced Lady Lightning, a superhero with super speed. The plot of the film revolved around Stan Lee who found a group of aliens and trained them to be superheroes.
The film was adapted from Stan Lee’s comic series, and the late creator stated that the film was a combination of “fantasy and reality, comedy and adventure for a superhero series, unlike anything I’ve created before.”
“SLAM 7 is the first reality-style comic books series and the first superhero project from Stan Lee Comics. We’re combining fantasy and reality, comedy and adventure for a superhero series, unlike anything I’ve created before. These incredible actors have brought these alien superheroes to life even better than I could have imagined…if that’s even possible!”
Despite having high hopes for the animated film, it was not well received by the fans or critics, receiving negative reviews from both; eventually forgotten and ceased to exist in the memories of the viewers.
Mighty 7 can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
