Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg starred in the 1997 movie Boogie Nights alongside an ensemble cast that also included the late actor Burt Reynolds. The film was a commercial and critical hit. However, Reynolds, who got his first Oscar nomination for the period comedy-drama, was not a big fan of the movie. He even went on to fire his agent for getting him the film. As much as the film is popular for its story and the cast’s performance, it is also well known for Reynolds’ hatred toward it.
However, it was not the same throughout his career. The Oscar nominee enjoyed a great career and had been one of the highest-paid actors in the industry. However, there came a time when he had to file for bankruptcy due to several reasons. While he slowly emerged from the financial crises, he made it clear that he had no regrets about his life.
Mark Wahlberg’s Boogie Nights Co-Star on Going Bankrupt
Burt Reynolds never liked his highly praised 1997 feature Boogie Nights. The actor has been quite vocal about it, as he even told his co-star Mark Wahlberg at the 1997 New York Film Festival that he had no idea why everyone liked the movie so much.
However, it wasn’t just the 1997 movie, he had also been quite vocal about almost everything, including the 1996 bankruptcy. The Crew actor talked about going bankrupt in a 2015 interview with Vanity Fair, saying, “I’ve lost more money than is possible because I just haven’t watched it.”
He also said that he did pretty well in terms of investing his money in property and other possible things, but he just wasn’t aware of how to handle his wealth smartly. He did agree that there are actors who have been pretty mindful and smart about their money.
However, Reynolds doesn’t believe that they should be considered good actors. When asked about being bankrupt, the late actor denied the claims saying that he was not bankrupt and wasn’t even worried about it. While he admitted that he had regrets over his bankruptcy, the actor later shared that he had no regrets left.
Burt Reynolds Had No Regrets Left
Burt Reynolds gave 60 years of his life to the movie business. He starred in more than 100 films and was once the shining star of Hollywood. However, the actor has opened up about not taking his career seriously. He shared that he was not very open or accepting about taking in risky parts or challenging himself as an actor.
It was one of the reasons he lost many roles, which could have been very significant to his career. “As a result, I missed a lot of opportunities to show I could play serious roles,” he said. The Boogie Nights star also shared that by the time he realized his mistake, it was too late, and no one was ready to give him the opportunity.
During an interview with The New York Times, the actor was asked if he has any regret about turning down any role. While he shared that while he doesn’t feel the same about every offer, he would have loved to do the 1983 comedy-drama, Terms of Endearment.
When asked about his regrets, he mentioned during his Vanity Fair interview he said, “I don’t have any regrets left.” Burt Reynolds passed away on September 6, 2018, at the age of 82, after suffering a heart attack at the Jupiter Medical Center in Florida.
