While there were speculations that Taron Egerton could very well become the next James Bond, the actor has shut them all down. Not only did he turn the rumors down, but he also revealed that he absolutely does not believe he is right for the role. Why? Well, according to Taron Egerton, his struggle with his weight is the reason why he does not see himself taking on the role of agent 007.

From Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Henry Cavill, there are quite a few actors in the race to become the next James Bond. Since the character is pretty iconic, there are rumors flying around about who the role will go to next. One of these names is Taron Egerton, who played Elton John in Rocketman.

However, in a recent interview with The Telegraph, Egerton has revealed that he does not believe he fits the role perfectly, owing to his struggle with his weight.

“I don’t think I’m the right choice for it. You have to be consistently statuesque to be that guy. And that’s something that I am still striving for. I’ve always struggled with my weight.”

Egerton also talked about how becoming James Bond is no less than becoming a “brand ambassador,” as producer Barbara Broccoli once said that it was a fifteen-year-long commitment. He also stated that it does not matter what he thinks about playing Bond as he has received zero phone calls regarding the same.

“[Playing Bond] is a bit like being a brand ambassador as well as being an actor. And that could be really fun in microcosm, but I’m sure I read that [producer] Barbara Broccoli said that it’s a 15-year commitment… It’s sort of irrelevant how I feel about it, anyway, because I can tell you there have been zero phone calls.”

While the actor has made it pretty clear that he is not going to be the next James Bond, do you think Egerton could have made a believable 007?

In another interview, this time with Total Film, Egerton stated that he believes the team has “already got someone” to play the role of James Bond. Once again, he revealed that he has not had any conversations with the producers and also believes there are better candidates out there for the role. However, Egerton did clarify that he will gladly be a part of the audience when the films are out.

“Yeah, I mean, I think they have already got someone and it’s not me. Yeah, I mean, I have never been a part of the conversations. I have never met the broccolis. They have never enquired about me. I have just never been one of the guys that they are looking at. I just don’t think I’m the right person for that. I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They are brilliant films.”

So since Egerton isn’t the next Bond, the role is still surrounded by a cloud of uncertainty. Whoever steps foot into the role next certainly has some big shoes to fill and a large audience to impress!
