Mark Gatiss wants to transform the TV show into a Sherlock film
Mark Gatiss has an impressive resume as an actor, comedian, screenwriter, director, and whatnot. He not only co-created the TV series, Sherlock but also appeared as Mycroft Holmes (the elder brother of Sherlock Holmes).
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Gatiss revealed more about the possible return of the TV show as well as his interest in making a Sherlock movie.
He also acknowledged the fact that it is a very difficult task to bring such a project into reality, pointing out the difficulties in generating buzz and getting essential resources.
Despite the challenges, Mark Gatiss expressed his interest, “
“We would love to make a Sherlock movie. It’s the natural thing to do”.
However, he also provided an explanation of the challenges by using Edgar Wright’s experience with Ant-Man as an example. The English filmmaker dedicated 8 years of his life to this project, but eventually departed due to creative differences.
The potential continuation of the Sherlock series
The Sherlock series is a captivating crime drama television series set in modern-day London. It follows the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and his friend, Dr. John Watson, as they address a series of intricate crimes.
The series is a huge success and is widely known for its witty dialogue and fabulous performances by the characters.
Gatiss and Moffat co-wrote four series before the drama came to an end in 2017 in its fourth season. Despite six years passing since the last season, demand for season 5 remains strong. The show’s creators, Steven Moffat, and Mark Gatiss, have expressed their interest in writing the new season. However, the choice regarding its revival has been left in the hands of the lead stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
In an interview with the BBC’s Today show, Sherlock creator Steven Moffat appealed to the lead actors to return and said,
“Martin and Benedict — please come back?”
Who knows, there could be a chance that the show is adapted into a feature film.
Sherlock Holmes is available for streaming on Netflix.
