Emma Watson is clearly one of the most loved actresses of all time. The English actress first rose to fame for her role as Hermoine Granger in the first Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone back in 2001. Having risen to mainstream fame at the young age of 11, Watson became the heartthrob of a whole generation of kids. The last Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 came out back in 2011 and after its release, the actress wanted to focus on her studies for a while.
However, as fate would have it, Emma Watson received the script of The Perks of Being a Wallflower around the same time and she just could not afford to miss out on it.
Emma Watson wasn’t looking for a movie when she got the script of The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Just like her character, Hermoine Granger from the Harry Potter universe, Emma Watson always prioritized her education above everything else. After the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 2011, the actress kind of gave up on movies in order to complete her education first. Although she was popular enough to get any kind of role in the industry, Watson was hell-bent on getting a degree first.
Things got so bad eventually that she even told her agent to stop sending her the scripts of movies. However, when her agent got the script of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, he could not resist sending it to her. The Noah actress even talked about it in an interview and said,
“Perks somehow made it under the door. [My agent] said I really think you should read this one and I had been reading things but Perks was the first thing that lit a fire under me. I thought it would be really important to make this film, I think this could really make a difference to a young person watching it. It felt quite special somehow.“
The Little Women actress hated kissing her co-star Logan Lerman in The Perks of Being a Wallflower
According to sources, Emma Watson allegedly hated kissing her co-star, Logan Lerman, who played the role of Charlie Kelmeckis in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. However, it was not because of comfort thing or anything along those lines. The actress once revealed in an interview that she hated doing the kissing scene with Lerman because she felt like the scene was written too beautifully in the script and she would not be able to act in it right. She said,
“I mean, when I read our first kiss scene, it’s so epic. It’s like the most beautiful scene I’ve ever seen written on a page. And it was like, ‘Oh, we’re going to have to kill this one!’ Like, it’s so good, I wanted to do it justice. And it’s so emotional and we’re both so vulnerable in it, but the main thing was I get to do it with Logan. He makes me feel so safe, so it’s going to be fine, which made it fine.“
Despite her hesitation Emma Watson did it and it became one of the most beautiful scenes of the movie. The movie was received really well by fans and critics all around the world on its release as well.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is currently streaming on Lionsgate Play.
