James Gunn’s most awaited film of the year, Blue Beetle was released a few days back. There was a lot of buzz around the film, regarding the new character revealed in the DC universe. The lead role of Blue Beetle was played by the Latino actor Xolo Maridueña. The film was anticipated to turn a new leaf in the DC studios after James Gunn and Peter Safran became new CEOs. However, the film’s poor box office returns have left the maker stunned.
With the ongoing writers and actors strike, the director had to do the film promotions on his own, which was exhausting.

Blue Beetle Director Opens Up on Emotional Exhaustion Due to Film Promotions
Xolo Maridueña’s film director, Ángel Manuel Soto, revealed about facing a tough time during the promotions of the superhero project. The director shared that he hated traveling to various time zones for the film, and how it became an emotional burden for him.
The director revealed in a conversation with Collider,
“It’s been intense. I don’t like to be in front of the cameras. I don’t mind having these conversations, I like it, but being in front of the camera for hours and hours and hours and then having to travel? It’s cool to go places, it’s not cool to travel. It gets very tiresome after a while, and the jet lag and the hour changes. Usually, for me, it’s more like emotional weight. Yes, you get physical exhaustion. It depends on who you interview, It’s kinda exciting, being in a different location, different place, different culture.”
James Gunn‘s DCU includes Ángel Manuel Soto’s film which is a superhero movie based on the DC Comics character Jaime Reyes or Blue Beetle. It was produced by DC Studios and The Safran Company.

Blue Beetle Director Expressed Disappointment in the Cast Not Doing Film Promotions
Ángel Manuel Soto shared in the interview that he is exhausted from the constant traveling and interviews for the film. However, he was disappointed that the cast was unable to get the amazing experience of worldwide touring. This was also pointed by fans to be poor advertising, leading to the movie’s mediocre run.
Soto shared,
“It always feels cool, but that whole understanding that this moment for me, I would have loved it for them to experience it because we rarely get a chance to be leading movies, much less leading superhero movies. For me, them being taken away from that opportunity is the one thing that kinda weighs on me, but at the same time, I’m constantly reminded that one, it’s not about me, and two, they’re fighting a good fight.”
“So I have to step up for them because they deserve it and what they’re doing right now—I’ve said it a bunch of times, and I’ll say it to the very end—sacrificing this opportunity that they have of being front and center to make sure that actors and writers have better pay and better treatment is a heroic act in itself. So, I will always support them, and I just hope people understand that and show up and support them too.”
Blue Beetle earned $10 million on opening day and earned $43.4 million overall, as per Entertainment Weekly.
