Steven Soderbergh’s Oceans series banked on some of the most sought-after A-listers of the 2000s, such as Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and oh, the lead George Clooney. With the premise of a heist, Soderbergh knew how to play with these characters and gave us a witty and splashy adventure.
The cast added more brilliant actors in the sequels but the dazzle of the story started to wash off as we got to the threequel. But, Soderbergh’s powerful directing sense made the final outing a worthwhile experience. Following his footsteps, director Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) took on the job of delivering his version of star power with an all-female cast in the prequel – Ocean’s 8.
Who better than Sandra Bullock to take on the ringmaster’s role in the film? She plays Danny Ocean’s (Clooney) sister Debbie who is also a con artist, just like her older brother, and definitely has a commanding presence in her acting. Along with a dream ensemble of Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter, the film had enough flavor for Ross to pull it off, which he did!
Although Blanchett is one highly versatile actor and has worked in many method films, she had one co-actor from her past that she could not stand.
Ocean’s 8 Cate Blanchett Found Brad Pitt’s Love For Angelina Jolie ‘Disgusting’
The Ocean’s 8 actor shares that during filming for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, she faced a lot of hurdles due to the lead actor Brad Pitt. He was together with Angelina Jolie for around twelve years before separating back in 2016.
In her interview with The Telegraph, Blanchett jokingly shared how loved up he used to be back then.
“Honestly, to see him in so much in love with Angelina, it was really quite ‘disgusting.’ And it was awful. I have it in my contract now that I won’t ever work with him due to his devotion to Jolie.”
Cate Blanchett Shares Memories From The Film
The incredibly talented actors have only worked twice and according to Blanchett, her biggest problem was Brad Pitt’s ‘annoying’ love for Jolie as it created hindrances during their shoot.
She further divulged her chemistry with him –
“I shouldn’t complain, but there were so many props and prosthetics involved and we talked a lot of moisturizers. Working throughout the day till 10 o’clock and getting up early at around 4 o’clock and it took around 6 hours just for the makeup.”
David Fincher, best known for Fight Club, Se7en, and Zodiac handled the project with such finesse that Blanchett herself was mesmerized.
“When one deals with an epic romance, a film like this could have easily gone into the sentimental, but given that we have got David Fincher, who is the world’s greatest cynic at the helm, we were safe.”
Her upcoming film – The New Boy is set for release on July 6, this year.
