Daniel Radcliffe rose to stardom with his role in the superhit franchise, Harry Potter. He played the lead along with Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. The movie series was adapted from J.K. Rowling’s novels. Radcliffe became part of the films at a very tender age and spent more than ten years, which made him one of the highest-paid stars in the industry. However, with immense love and fame, the series also gift him a bad addiction.

Radcliffe became a heavy drinker while shooting for the film series, and in an interview, he revealed the reason for the same.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe became an alcoholic for a strange reason

The Lost City actor began drinking in his late teens. The star shared in an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs that it helped him deal with his celebrity status. The hero became a global star in the Harry Potter franchise, however, it took a toll on the actor.

He added that he started drinking more when things were wrapping up with the last Harry Potter films. Radcliffe became anxious about his career after the film franchise, he recalled,

“A lot of drinking happened toward the end of Potter and for a little bit after it finished.” 

“It was panic a little bit, not knowing what to do next. Not being — comfortable enough in who I was to remain sober.”

Daniel Radcliffe was attached to the Harry Potter series for seven movies which grossed $7.7 billion worldwide.

Daniel Radcliffe got drinking inspiration from co-star Richard Harris

In a 2012 interview with Mirrorthe Harry Potter star shared that he was fortunate to work with numerous acting legends in the film franchise. The megastar was particularly impressed by Richard Harris and his drinking style.

What If the actor shared,

“Harry Potter put me around people like the actor Richard Harris, and I heard all their amazing stories about their drunken nights. That was what I was desperately trying to pursue.” 

However, things did not turn around as he expected,

“But I was a really annoying, loud, inappropriate, messy drunk. I’m good fun for the first four drinks, and after that, it’s a rapid, rapid decline into where I have to be helped home. Blackout was kind of my thing.”

The actor also recalled he would often turn up drunk on the film sets. He shared with Heat Magazine, as printed by Reuters in 2012,

“I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work. I can point to many scenes where I’m just gone. Dead behind the eyes.”

It was announced some time back that Max is creating a television series based on the Harry Potter books. Reportedly the series is a reboot of the iconic franchise, but it seems fans of the original franchise are not in favor of the idea. Daniel Radcliffe had shared that he would not do a cameo in the series as it is a fresh start. The details of the series are yet to be revealed.

Daniel Radcliffe was last seen in Sandra Bullock’s film The Lost City.
