Eternals, released as part of Marvel’s phase four, introduced a list of brilliant actors to the $29 billion franchise. The cast featured big names including Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, and Gemma Chan, alongside Game of Thrones actors Richard Madden and Kit Harington. The film received mixed reviews and collected $402M at the box office, becoming the fourth lowest-grossing MCU movie.
But one cannot deny the fact that Eternals was a visually brilliant film with an impressive design. However, the choice of location, Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands, led to a scary incident that left the cast & crew fearing for their lives.

What Happened On The Sets Of Marvel’s Eternals?
In a terrifying incident, the Eternals crew stumbled upon a bomb on the sets of the Marvel movie. Initially unidentified, the object was then found to be an old buried bomb from a nearby German military base established during the Second World War. The bomb disposal experts were quickly called in and the situation was handled as per protocol.
Reportedly, no cast members were present at the site where the bomb was found, but the news of a bomb nearby sure scared the hell out of some of the finest actors in Hollywood. A source shared their account of the incident:
“It was obviously terrifying — the bomb could have been there for decades untouched but who knows what might have happened if it was disturbed. Some of the biggest stars in the world were on set and nobody was taking any chances. Fortunately, experts dealt with it.”
The production of the movie was halted only for a short limited time. Actors Richard Madden and Angelina Jolie, who were present on set that day, refrained from commenting on the bomb scare. However, actor Kumail Nanjiani confirmed the bomb scare later.
Marvel Actor Kumail Nanjiani Recalled The Bomb Scare Day
Kumail Nanjiani played the Eternal, Kingo, in the movie. The Big Sick actor confirmed to the Empire magazine that an old explosive was found on the sets of the Marvel movie in the Canary Islands. Nanjiani shared that the production was shut down as panic ensued among the crew. The Lovebirds actor recounted:
“Some of the actors found this metal thing and were like, ‘Hey, what’s that?’… I remember being like, ‘Guys, why’s the schedule changing? WHAT DO YOU MEAN, THERE’S A BOMB?!?”
Interestingly, the filming was scheduled in Fuerteventura after the director of Eternals, Chloé Zhao, preferred more practical effects over visual effects. The shoot on the islands was already challenging due to sandstorms and the bomb scare just worsened it.
Eternals is available for streaming on Disney+.
