As reported by Slash Film, director Martin Campbell once revealed an intriguing anecdote of how he fought hard and refused to delete this one defining scene from the 2006 movie Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig and Eva Green. The outlet reported that Campbell recalled this tale to the best-selling authors Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross for their book Nobody Does It Better: The Complete, Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of James Bond.
The filmmaker shared that the film producer Barbara Broccoli suggested removing this scene where Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) surprises James Bond (Daniel Craig) with a new suit as they deck up to attend the tournament. As per the outlet, he shared,
“Bond, full of attitude, comes in and hangs up her dress and says, ‘I want you to wear this, because I want the players looking at you and not at their cards. A distracting technique.’ It was chauvinist as hell. Then he goes back in, and my God, he sees this beautiful suit laid out. I remember Barbara saying, ‘You can’t have that. You can’t have that. Bond has his own suit.’ I said, ‘But he’s not Bond yet.'”
