The bromance between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki was first witnessed in 2011’s Thor movie. Fans cannot deny that the pair’s charm lies in their complicated relationship. From adversaries to allies, they prove that blood is thicker than water, even though they don’t necessarily come from the same lineage.
It’s been 12 years since Thor and Loki first graced the big screens, yet fans can still remember how they constantly bickered at each other. Indeed, they had a lot of fights, and sometimes, those attacks were quite real.
Tom Hiddleston Regrets Asking Chris Hemsworth To Smack Him In The Face
Tom Hiddleston once spoke about the time he and Avengers co-star Chris Hemsworth tried to make their fighting scene look realistic on camera. The British actor, being physically leaner than the Australian star, was more on the losing side. Hiddleston shared via The Late Show with Stephen Colbert:
“On film, it’s all about angles when you’re fighting as you’re trying to get the angles of the different parts of the choreography to tell the story, but you only have to do it once. Actually, there was a scene in the first Avengers movie, where Thor had to strike Loki across the face, and I was wearing the horns that weigh about 30lbs. I couldn’t quite sell the hit, the smack, so I said to Chris, ‘I think you should just hit me in the face.’ It was a terrible idea, and I went down like a stone.”
Judging from their build alone, Hiddleston and Hemsworth are polar opposites. Interestingly, it also shows in their MCU characters how Thor possesses incredible strength but does not really have a lot of skill in the intellectual department, while Loki makes up for his lack of muscle mass through his cleverness.

Before Hiddleston became a Marvel villain, he was first a stage actor in several Shakespearean plays. He described to Colbert the difference between combat on the stage and on Marvel sets:
“I suppose on stage, when you’re doing a fight, you have to do it every night for 100 odd performances. I think if I was being hit in the face by Chris Hemsworth day after day, I don’t know if I’d be able to manage that, it wouldn’t be sustainable.”
The Crimson Peak actor has accepted that he cannot go toe-to-toe against his Marvel co-star, and he would certainly lose if he ever attempts to do so.
Tom Hiddleston And Chris Hemsworth Are Besties In Real-Life
Of course, the constant quarrelling and hitting on the face are just for show, because Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth actually treat each other like real-life brothers. The Midnight in Paris star told GQ:
“I made a fast and firm friendship [with Hemsworth] because we were playing brothers in this enormous thing, and it felt like we were brothers by the end in some way. He was the only other person who understood what the experience had been like.”
Hiddleston’s time working on his first Marvel film has definitely made changes in his life. Indeed, he and Hemsworth had formed a bond that only brothers can understand. The actor continued:
“He was the only other person who — when I came back and friends were like, ‘How was it?’ — it’s always really hard to explain, and there was one person who knew, and that’s Chris. We’ve always shared that, really, because it’s kind of a life-changing moment for both of us.”
As they worked together in the succeeding MCU films, Hiddleston and Hemsworth’s friendship even became stronger than ever.
