The actor who won the Honorary Award at the age of 62 admitted that whenever he used to watch movies with his father, he was always asked why didn’t he win one ever. Jackie Chan claimed that finally after spending 50 years in the line, it was the moment-
“After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, breaking so many bones, finally this is mine.”
The Shanghai Noon star also remembered how he saw an Oscar at Sylvester Stallone’s house and repeatedly touched and kissed it. Chan always dreamt of the Golden Lady but never expected to win one due to the genre of movies he was popular for. But it is interesting how Tom Cruise’s take on Oscar is completely different from that of the 69-year-old.
Tom Cruise doesn’t care about the Oscars
Tom Cruise has also enjoyed a praiseworthy career with his priceless contribution to action movies. Films like Mission Impossible, Top Gun, Born on the Fourth of July, and Jerry Maguire have been iconic in his career. But still, it looks like the actor has a different outlook on awards. His views are quite different from many others as he admitted that Oscar doesn’t have much value to him.
Even after being nominated four times, the global action star didn’t win one ever. Cruise has always claimed that what he does is for his love for films and not for awards. Steven Spielberg also praised the star for being the ‘savior of cinema’ for his Top Gun: Maverick which earned astronomical at the box office after the global pandemic. But still, it failed to do big at the Oscars. It must also be noted that he is never seen doing the type of movies that are usually considered favorites in the Academy Awards. According to a report by the Irish Examiner, an Oscar means nothing for the Ethan Hunt fame.
“I didn’t grow up watching the Oscars, so it’s never been a goal. I wanted to act. People have tried to get me to do a role by saying, ‘This is your Oscar.’ That means nothing to me.”
While Tom Cruise never won an Oscar, he enjoys a celebrated career in Hollywood and a very inspiring career. Similar to Jackie Chan, he also has a wide influence among his fans who never fail to appreciate his movies. The recently released Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One was a good example of how Cruise has successfully won the hearts of countless people and maybe it’s not long before we also spot him with a Golden Lady statuette of his own.
