Marvel Star David Harbour Trashed Daniel Day-Lewis After His Own Method Acting Made Him Want To Commit Murder

When it comes to the recent upcoming stars in the industry, there have been many that have been present in the business for a long time but are only starting to come up to the forefront. Among them, one of the biggest names has to be David Harbour, who burst onto the scene after he was cast as Officer Jim Hopper in Netflix’s blockbuster series Stranger Things.

Ever since then, the star has given it his all to make sure he excels in every project that he has been a part of, which also made him delve into the world of method acting for a bit. But afterward, the star opened up about his experience, in which he also called out Daniel Day-Lewis for promoting this nonsensical idea of acting.

Apart from playing the role of one of the police officers of Hawkins, David Harbour has also made a name for himself as one of the new MCU stars that have joined the ranks of the franchise as Red Guardian, first seen in 2021’s Black Widow. Apart from that, in the past, we also saw the star taking on the role of the demon paranormal investigator Hellboy in 2019’s Hellboy. Therefore, in playing so many different roles, the star had to manifest the characteristics of all of his characters, which he achieved by the use of method acting, a practice that he now believes is illogical.

In a recent interview, the Gran Turismo star talked about the experience that he went through while shedding almost 80 pounds for his return to season 4 of Stranger Things, which is a form of method acting process to go through drastic changes like your character. He said that while he did put his mind and hard work on it, he didn’t really enjoy it. Then, he referred to Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis, calling his practices of method acting nothing but nonsensical. In the interview, he said:

“When I was younger — it’s so embarrassing — but I remember playing that famous Scottish King, and being like, ‘I’m gonna kill a cat’ or something: ‘I’m gonna go murder something to know what it feels like to murder.’ I didn’t actually do it, obviously. Not only is that stuff silly, it’s dangerous, and it actually doesn’t produce good work. [Daniel Day-Lewis] is an extraordinary actor who I’m captivated and fascinated by. [But] when he explains his process it sounds like nonsense to me.”

While he may not delve into method acting in the future, many other stars are known to be great practitioners of this technique and will keep on with their practice in the future as well.
