“It really could go on and on and on”: Netflix May Repeat the ‘One Piece Curse’ That is Eiichiro Oda’s Greatest Criticism

"It really could go on and on and on": Netflix May Repeat the 'One Piece Curse' That is Eiichiro Oda's Greatest Criticism

One Piece is one of the most significant things ever that happened to the anime industry. The series written by Eiichiro Oda, beginning in 1999, has proven to be one of the greatest pieces of fiction ever produced. The manga has millions of fans who love it and want more, but others often criticize Oda sensei for making it too long. Netflix-produced One Piece live-action can be on the same path, considering they plan to make numerous seasons.

One Piece live-action show creators, producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, in an interview with Deadline, mentioned that they plan to make 12 seasons, which might bring them the same curse, which is Eiichiro Oda’s most significant criticism.

What is the One Piece Curse?

One Piece is a long story and has been going on for over two decades; the series has 1080 chapters, which is enormous for a manga. Viewers who have watched the series are unsatisfied with the numbers and want more chapters, but others often troll it due to its long storyline. Following the success of the live-action adaptation, the show creators said they plan to make more seasons, which could go on and on.

In an interview with Deadline, One Piece live-action producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements said:

“We have hopes for 12 seasons, there’s so much material.”

They further said,

“We’re over 1,080 chapters at this point in the manga. We have plans with [showrunner] Matt Owens for how we would break multiple seasons, and I think even if we did six seasons, we would probably only use up half of the chapters of the manga. It really could go on and on and on.”

If Netflix manages to make over 12 seasons of the show, it will end up in the same situation as the One Piece anime and manga, which are criticized for being too long. However, only the first season of One Piece live-action has been released, and there is a long way to go before they adapt 12 seasons.

Is it possible for Netflix to make 12 seasons of One Piece Live-action?

Despite the success of the first season of One Piece live-action, which has adapted around 95 chapters of the manga, there is still a long route ahead if the show creators plan to make over 12 seasons.

The production cost of the first season was extraordinarily high. It took a lot of time, so it remains a question of how long will the other seasons take, considering the upcoming season has many fights, new locations, and much more.

Making 12 seasons of the series is a considerable task, and a significant problem is that One Piece is still nowhere near its end and still has more arcs that are going to be released in the future, so even if the show creators manage to make 12 seasons, the rest of the story would take even more.

Season 1 of One Piece live-action is available for streaming on Netflix.
