As per the actor, he first met Rita Wilson back in 1985 while he was still married to Samantha Lewes. Although they might be having a rough period, the Captain Phillips actor stated that he had an immediate attraction towards Rita Wilson. In an interview with GQ, the actor revealed that he just looked at Wilson and there was an instant connection between the two.
“Rita and I just looked at each other and — kaboing — that was that. I asked Rita if it was the real thing for her, and it just couldn’t be denied.”
He later divorced Samantha Lewes in 1987 and went on to marry Rita Wilson in 1988. Their marriage has been going strong ever since. In their interview, the duo talked about their strong marriage life and how they enhance it day by day.

In their interview, the married couple talked about their marriage that stayed the test of time. Stating that they went further with maturity, timing, willingness, and the compromises that both of them would have to make for each other.
“The success of our relationship was a matter of timing, maturity and our willingness to have an intimate connection. When I married Rita, I thought, ‘This is going to require some change on my part.’ I won’t deny that providence was part of us finding each other, but our relationship isn’t magic — the way it’s shown in movies.”
He further continued,
“In real life, our connection is as concrete as me sitting here. Not that marriage doesn’t come close to being hell in a handbasket sometimes. But we both know that no matter what, we’ll be with each other — and we’ll get through it.”
